I need some advice on how to fix. It is on an A harp. I was going to use an angle grinder to take some off the short end of the reed. Maybe a blow torch. hehe.

I was really thinking like an Emory board or nail file. I think I remember Gussow talking about it on a youtube episode, but I can't find it.

I used my guitar to tell that is about a quarter step sharp. Maybe less.

Thanks in advanced.

You could use a small file, fine sandpaper or emery board.
Dave Payne has a video here which explains how to do it.
Just remember "less is more".

Joe,

(Edit: Kingley beat me to the punch while I was typing the below response, but there might be something in my post useful to you anyway so I'll leave it as is)

Be a bit careful with tuning to a guitar, because most harps are tuned up to 442-445 Hz ( not 440 Hz ), because when you draw hard it will flatten the note with the pressure. Then also the reed could be tuned up or down up to 10 or 12 cents depending on the tuning scheme of the harp.

Anyway if youve got that sorted most people will use a jewellers file, you could also just stick some fine sandpaper onto a icy pole stick. File the tip to sharpen, and the base to flatten the reed. You can also use a scraper to remove material from the base of the reed to flatten it.
From memory I think a guy on Youtube Hakanehn might have a vid showing some tuning.

Hope that helped.

Which part should is considered the bottom? Is it the rivet end? How do I file the bottom? Hehehe.

Kingley is there another part to this video? It would be nice to see him file the bottom... Where ever that is.

:) Thanks again.

Like Tryharp says, If you file some off the loose end of a reed it raises the pitch. If you take it off the other end it lowers the pitch.

It always advisable to practice on some old harps first as you don't want to ruin a good one! :)

Thanks Kingley. I didn't understand which what the top and bottom. I was making something simple way more complex then it needed to be.

This place is great. I get answers quickly and patiently.

Many thanks.
