hey, i have some old knackered big river harps which i'm happy to destroy. will soaking them make any difference? i've never soaked a harp, but i assumed it would only benefit a wooden comb. am i right?

thanks

I don't even know if it benefits a wooden harp. Water is usually the woods fiend...

If you want to destroy a couple of harps, did you try embossing and gapping them?

Believe me it works... ;).

It'll clean them - won't effect the sound at all once they're dry.
Soaking a wooden harp supposedly makes them temporarily more airtight, but the constant cycle of soaking/drying causes cracking, distorted combs and leakiness.

beng, you can't hurt the ABS plastic combs with water.

Just buy some Meisterclasse reedplates for them, then you'll have some pretty tasty harps.
