I thought I'd go back and try to learn how to toungblock.
After playing through Oh'susanna a few times I havea few questions.

first when you want to play more then one note on the same hole do you kind of "breath in twice" (like with your diaphragm?) or is there some other method
Second is your tounge suposed to be relaxed in your mouth when covering the holes? my tounge was quite stiff and it started getting sore quite soon, is it something that will just get better with practice?

many thanks

Max,

1./ To play more than one note I would say you stop and start the note using the back of the throat. Try saying ga ga as you inhale, which will cut the air flow. Also you can slap your tongue down on the comb just after you start the note, which takes you from a chord to a single note, this gives the big fat sound of TBing

2./ Very relaxed.

Hope that helped.

I am really trying to develop TBing myself now and after a long time the bends are finally coming. I found by trying it out a little bit now and again that my mouth eventually trained itself to do the business. The back of the throat is definitely where most of the work is done in that regard.

I started off playing some simple stuff lip pursed and then added in TBed octaves and then as I moved down the harmonica I tried sounding the notes using TBing and then added the TBed bends and it has sort of come naturally from that as it became a more natural feeling from experimenting with it for so often.
