I had a Lee Oskar harp in the key of G which I was quite dissapointed with. After playing my Suzukis I found it to be breathy, in need of a lot of air, and the extra deep lower plate meant it was quite a mouthfull.

However, due to my newfound confidence from customising my Delta Frost, I thought I had nothing to lose if I had a go at trying to improve it's performance.

I redrilled the coverplates and reedplates to take a sensible sized nut and bolt to secure the coverplates, and opened the back up. This didn't make for much of an increase in the aperture size, but to my mind looks a little better. Those stupid little nuts and bolts which held the plates on originally were pathetic, but I suppose they were used to keep costs down

I then embossed the plates and re-gapped the reeds and achieved a far superior air to sound ratio than I had before.

All in all, I now have a G harp which was collecting dust which I am really pleased to play again. Good job. Wah wah wah!

When I'm not blowing, I'm drawing.

Good post, Tooka--I have a few of these LO's around that have a function in my harp box of being the harp that I grab if my first and second string harps lock up.

I especially dislike the stupidly deep numbers that irritate my sense of aesthetics--but I guess it must work for people who have to play by braille. I also dislike the beard grabber cover design.

I do have two LO natural minor harps that I like a lot--for the tuning--not for the harp. This post gives me the hope that they might be fix-upable. . .
