Junior Wells was incredible. But if I had the option, I would want to sound like this:

I would play like this guy, Phil Caltabellotta. I think he and Michalek are about the two most underrated players around...

I forgot to mention Nacoran, that he was an NYC police officer in the 60s, in Harlem, and a former bodybuilder. But, one hell of a guy.

They are going to be at SPAH. Y'all ought to check them out. Phil's also got a jazz CD, Phil up with Jazz, that everybody ought to have a copy of. If anybody wants one, I'll get you and PHil connected.. or get one at SPAH>

If I had to pick someone to sound like, it would be Carlos Del Junco for me.

Like just about anyone else, I'd love to be able to play like Jason Ricci. I also really like the way Billy Gibson plays with so much energy and would love to play like him (and have stolen some of his licks)

For me it would be to play as good as Brendan Power. I think he has the ability to play a variety of styles and genres from Blues to Classics & on both Diatonic & Chromatic.

This is the first piece of harp playing I ever heard

so it still has a place in my heart, although obviously I don't think van Vliet is as good as I did 30 years ago. But I'd still like to be able to play everything van Vliet plays in the way that he plays it.
I don't see the attraction of little Walter. I'd rather play like Rice Miller.(Jason goes without saying, but someone has already posted a clip of his).

There are so many to pick from that I couldn't pick just one. It would be more like who would I like to sound like for a particular song. Some that come to mind though are Big Walter, Little Walter, William Clarke, Grant Dermody, Rice Miller, Sonny Terry, Rick Estrin.... So you see my dilemna.

I'd play like myself if I'd started playing the harmonica since I was five, that way, I'd still sound like myself, only good!

The harp lick that Wells is playing is lovely Baker! What song is it? It sounds very familiar...

I tried to play it on an A harp, something like -2, -2b, 2, 1, 2... That sounds about right but he is playing it soooooo smooth its sounds fantastic.

Thanks for the link.

Hey Oliver,
The track is called "Ships on the Ocean". It's from the album "Hoodoo Man Blues" by Jr Wells and Buddy Guy. You can get it on ITunes.

I think it is on an A harp and the lick goes something like
1, -3b, -2b, 2, 1.

The first note (1 blow) maybe a 1-4 octive. It's hard to tell. And I think it's slightly different on the album.

It reminds of the lick from "Louisiana Blues" by Muddy Waters

I love this track, glad you liked it too.

Was just thinking about this lick. It's in 1st position and Adam does a lesson which covers a lick very similar.

I like that piece of Captain Beefheart, and I just love Van Vliet's playing ! Didn't know that one, but I find the use of harp on the "Spotlight Kid" album is brilliant. Sick playing for sick blues !

jon also took my answer.

But, without wanting to suck up, I do aspire to Adam's style more than most.

I suppose it's because I used to be a crappy street musician: mostly single note stuff.
Adam's lessons changed all that. Now, I have to try and tone down a bit.

I would like to play with the mix of John Lee williamson with Big walter with the flavour of any of the overblowers like Adam Gussow, carlos Del Junco, Jasonc Ricci, Howard Levy or Chris Michalek. All of this also heavily influenced by Paul Butterfield.
