Just curious. I think we had 23 last time. It would be fun to see a lot more.

If you've got tekky/IT probs, the chances are the forum will solve them.

I'm hoping to be in. Getting tired of hearing Summertime now. Blimey! I didn't know it was going to be so difficult to make it sound "interesting". But I suppose that is part of the challenge - to take a standard and put a new slant on it? I'm going to ensure my version is way shorter than the four minute max because I can see judging will get monotonous otherwise.

I have a few sound quality issues which I am hoping to overcome before competition time closes.

I won't join in, but today I was playing it in 3rd, 4th and 5th position at the train station. 5th is least interesting because so few of the notes are bendable, but it's the first to require an overblow. What other positions are people using? (I haven't methodically gone through all 12 yet.)

You know what, tookax2? Every time I work on a tune for any length of time, it drives me nuts. I get sick of it.

But, it's still gonna be fun: the nerves when you actually record it; the million re-takes; and watching all the other entries. Can't wait.

Might try to post something this time if I can figure out how to post a video.
Never played it before so this'll be a good challenge.

XHarp,

Like I said, 'If you've got tekky/IT probs, the chances are the forum will solve them.' It usually does.

I'm thinking about it. I would have to submit just an audio track or an audio track with generic video track. I'm not familiar at all with how to play Summertime. I seen a small riff on one of the other threads but I'm not sure how to build on that. I should prob just accept last place & not post, lol.

Ryan,

I thought I'd probably come no where last time and I didn't give a hoot.

Just start it on 6 draw then 5 draw and the rest you can figure - if you're playing 3rd position - and take it from there.

The only impediment to playing the tune is good intonation on the 3 draw whole-step bend. If you've not cracked that, what better reason is there?

Sorry, I'm being pushy. Just want this contest to be a good one; it's fun.

Hey Ryan,

Give it a go man, I am going to jump in as well.

Mickil count me in. I rate myself somewhere between beginner and Intermediate and will just be doing it for fun and to motivate others who are jsut starting out.

geordiebluseman,

What browser are you using? If it's one of those I have, I'll have a butchers at the settings. The chances are it's been disabled in there.

OK GB, here goes:

click on Tools > Internet Options

click on the Programs tab

click on the Manage add-ons button

In the list of programs that pops up, scroll down and find Flash and Shockwave Flash Object.

In the Status column make sure that both programs are enabled. If not, the instructions to enable them are on that window.

If that fails and I were you, I'd just download Firefox and its Flash plug-in and be done with it. It doesn't freeze half as much as Internet Explorer.

Hope that does it.

I am working on it, also in 3rd position. It's not a song I really knew before, except for the first few bars, so I have to learn to play it right before I try improvising ... at least I think I do. I do have an arrangement in mind though. So assuming I can squeeze in enough practice before month's end, I'm in.

Since this is "summertime, and people are busy...." perhaps it might be helpful to some if the deadline were pushed back a bit, maybe for another few weeks? I don't want to mess up mickil's great organization of this, but I'll throw the suggestion out there none the less.

Mid August would be great. Our last pre-booked gig this year is this saturday then we're off for about 3 weeks due to members holidays. Give's me some time to catch up on this and git 'er done.

How's the voting go again?
Is there assigned judges or do we just critique each others entry?

XHarp,

Dunno about the voting yet. Maybe we could do exactly what we did last time except that we don't have - well, haven't got at present - the pros' votes.

Instead of their votes, maybe we could just have a second round of votes to choose out of the top five.

Any thoughts?

Has it been decided that the competition has now been extended to the 15th August then? It's a bit unclear in the above posts.
