How about we get one of these going on MBH forum? A thread were we can all just post any old thing, that does not warrent a thread of its own. Harp related or not. I think it would be great!
Sounds OK to me. One idea I've been chewing over is how about a thread where we write a tune? It would be interesting to see where this could go.
The idea would be to create a soundfile of the start of a made up tune and post it on here with the tab so that other folks can play it and they would then create the next line etc.
They would then post their soundfile and tab here and gradually after a lot of cussing and disagreements we could write a tune.
I'm not sure how it would pan out but it would be interesting to see how the eventual piece of music developed with world wide input.
If there is any interest I'll try and think of a way that it could be done simply.
This might work--but all threads on this forum will eventually sink off into a quagmire of threads, because no thread can be locked at the top.
And, does this mean that we can't jump in and go wildly off-topic on any thread we choose? That would put me out of things to do!
I'd be in for some tune writing--sounds fun--I'm getting a little bored with reading about broke 2 draw reeds in new harps and bigger badder amps.
Buddha--you gotta get some Fidalgo beans from Washington--they'll change your way thinking about life--I'll try to get you some and bring them to SPAH. . .

Oldwailer, I would love to but I prefer free albeit fucked up beans from neo-black men who like to swim.
How about you take on a 3rd person in your room at SPAH? I just got a call today from a wickedly cool person who is looking for a roomate or three.

OK oldwailer. I'll wait to see what the consensus of opinion is first to see whether this gets any interest. I'd need some guidance cos I'm musically challenged when it comes to theory. Hopefully some others may chime in with suggestions on how we could do this.
Eg. All use same key harp in second position etc. ----------
I'm not sure I understand: a thread without a thread?
I go down the pub for that.
P.S. I too like coffee - at least three cups in the morning before my brain works, well, sort of. ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa
Ahh, coffee, my favourite breakfast. It wakes me up, it kick starts my bowels. 5 measures of high roast in a small cafetiere, dessertspoon of sugar, no milk. Worst coffee I ever drank was Starbucks - weaker than piss, tasted of dishwater, vanilla and polystyrene.
What is it with you Americans and your goddam skinny soy lattecino macchiatos with a triple shot of hazlenut? I dare you to ask for one of those in Sicily - you'll be sleeping with the fishes!

the house dont seem to be sellin so...i got a job. delivering auto parts again. iv worked for this guy like 5 times allready. not happy about workin...but at least now i can buy stuff. some more custom harps...maybe a harpgear amp? ultimate57 mic? a shirt? other stuff. time will tell as the money stacks up.
Oliver, you're quite right. I'm on my third. Cheers!
As for coffee, I drink instant - dark roast of course - two heaped teaspoons in each cup: good and strong. ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa
Sorry Oliver, I don' mean to be mean, but a thread with no topic does seem to defeat the object of having a forum in the first place; that's what prompted my thought about the pub. Please forgive my former sarcasm. Sarcasm - or a cheap shot - is not usually a nice thing. Kind thoughts, Mick ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa
They are kind of a commonplace message-board thing...
As much as I enjoy this forum, it's kind of in the dark ages as far as message-board functionality goes.
I understand Adam does all of this off his own back and I would never expect / ask anything more of him.
However a 'low-content' thread, in my opinion, would be a benefit to the forum, and might be enjoyed by some people, and others not (they can ignore it).
It would be as easy to implement as Adam or someone starting a thread titled 'July Low-Content Thread'.
I just started this thread to gauge interest anyway, not to attempt to force it through or anything.
mickil no sweat I took your post with the humour I'm sure was intended :).
I like real coffee & real beer. On my few trips to the US I have yet to taste anything remotely like coffee! The swill they dish up in huge trashy cups at Starbucks is YUK!
As for beer I would drink anything - almost.
Just a little anecdote on coffee in the US. In Oz we always have our coffee at the end of every meal. On a trip to the US whilst having breakfast in a large hotel the waiter poured me coffee before I had started eating. I said later. He immediately returned and started pouring again. I said later. He immediately returned and started pouring again & I noted that the coffee was starting to look very watery. He had taken my accent saying 'later' as meaning 'lighter'.
I'm off to have my morning Cappachino as its now 10am.
I'm on my 4th and final beer. It's 1.13 am. Nighty nighty, all. ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa
oliver is right. it is a common thing on forums. an i think its a good idea cause you can post random stuff you feel like saying with out having to make a thread.
I want an art deco harmonica. Somebody also suggested that someone should make a harmonica that looks like a Snickers bar. I was thinking that if I made a molding of a Snickers and made a set of covers based on it I could sort of decoupage a real wrapper onto it and shellac it. It's just an idea now, but it's pokin' at me, pokin' at me.
About your song thing, where we each write a piece, etc. You've got to have a set meter and form that's standard for all writing it. Thus, it becomes slightly more organized than monkeys throwing feces on a wall.
I will begin, first verse:
"In the days of old, harp players were bold, but no one was particular, They lashed their harps onto the poles and played them perpendicular."
Now, your turn.

Last time I was in Europe--the coffee was horrible! Of course that was in the 60's--they probably hadn't discovered real coffee until Starbucks got over there.
I think a good off-topic thread that argues the value of an off-topic thread would be a really good idea--kind of Cartesian, in my way of thinking.
Dave--that song starts off like a limrick--like
"there was a young man from Nantuckett had a dic--"
I better not go into that. . .
I was thinking of a more standard twelve-bar, iambic pentameter thing like:
"Buddah woke up this morning, but he didn't have no beans, Buddah woke up this morning, but didn't have no beans.
So he just rolled on over and then went back to sleep. he said:
"I got the no beans blues--ain't worth my time to get up. I got them mean nasty no beans blues--ain't even worth my time to get up. If Buzadero don't bring my beans soon, I'll hafta mess him up!"
"On a trip to the US whilst having breakfast in a large hotel the waiter poured me coffee before I had started eating. I said later. He immediately returned and started pouring again. I said later. He immediately returned and started pouring again & I noted that the coffee was starting to look very watery. He had taken my accent saying 'later' as meaning 'lighter'."
Aussie, that's because your accint isn't as intilligible as a New Zealander's.

Haha oldwailer, yes - this thread can be for both off topic posts, and debate on the merit of such a thread!
I was going to make a post asking about if anyone here was following the Ashes but felt that would be a waste of a new post... It looks like we a all set up for a spectacular England collapse today!
---
I also wanted to ask about how / when people are using the 5 blow in 2nd pos...
Buddha - If we're talking dry-weight then it's tea!
Oldwailer - I don't like Starbuck's £3 ($6ish) for a cup of coffee??? - it's all milk and air anyway! I remember when you could get a cuppa in a greasy caff for 20p - of course that's probably the same crap you had in the 60s!
I suppose typically as the 3rd of the IV chord. ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa
I think we should go to other forums and post on their "off topic containment forums" about the merits of an MBH "off topic containment forum."
Then we should wonder why anyone would make a set of cover plates that look like a snickers, when eventually everyone will wonder why some guy is wailing on a silver turd.
Of course that is an easy answer to my question. However, I have been in several coffee shops and asked that same question and to my surprise there were several who did not know the answer. I am sure you would find the same.
I have just sent some fabulousYorkshire tea over to someone in the States.
I like the plain old teas like Tetley, PG Tips, Yorkshire. None of that lapsang souchong (tastes like tree bark) or bloody wimpy Earl Grey crap for me.
Starbucks couldn't make decent coffee to save their lives!!
When it comes to coffee, I much prefer to spend some time and make a nice espresso and if there is some around I'll have a little sambuca in it. I got the taste for that years ago when I was a chef in an Italian restaurant.
I'll have nescafe though if I'm in a rush and need a quick hit.

Buddha, what kind of machine do you have at home that's as simple as push button, get coffee? Gotta get me one of those. And cream in tea? Yeah I'm a Dolt. Gotta be 2% milk ---------- "Keep it in your mouth" - XHarp
I spend a minimum of 2 hours driving to and from work daily. Perhaps I should look into a harmonica holder too. I have many different makes & models of harps is there a thread on a good harmonica holder to hold just about any make and model harp?
If Im driving at the speed of light & I turn my headlights on does anything happen?

jonsparrow- I imagine once I get the motivation up to make the covers it would be easy to decoupage just about any of the 'fat' candybars on it- Snickers, Three-Musketeers (it would be great to have a classic white wrapper instead of the modern silver), etc.
I know you all may well think me very unsophisticated, but my favourite coffee is Tesco Classic - the brown label, not the blue. I think it's nicer than Nescafe, and it's about half the the price.
Incidentally, have you noticed how one's embouchure slides less easily on the covers with red wine than it does with white wine or beer? Or is that just me? ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa
Anyone tried that cat-crap coffee? the stuff where a civet-cat (no! - not Jason!) eats the coffee beans and then someone picks the partially digested beans out of its droppings?
No f*/*=- way! Next, you'll be telling me some people drink their own piss. haha ! ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa
I personally prefer to drink tea, but I will drink coffee when I need to really wake up in the morning, like if I have a long night before school in the morning. Folgers is fine for me, and starbucks is pretty strong in my poinion. ---------- Brandon Bailey
"Anyone tried that cat-crap coffee? the stuff where a civet-cat (no! - not Jason!) eats the coffee beans and then someone picks the partially digested beans out of its droppings?"
Hey Mickil, Everyone knows that Bourbon is the lubricant of choice for lips on a harp. LOL!!!
As for coffee I have been boycotting Starbucks (remember I am from the Seattle area) for about 2 years now. As soon as it was evident that we were gonna lose our basketball team because Howard Schultz sold them down the river. It is all good as it is the McDonalds of coffee anyway. Prefer the organic place at my main bus station for coffee. An yes I have a four shot mocha with no whip. At least there is no soy or machiatto, etc.
My add to the buzo buddha lines: Gots to have my joe as it keeps me in line, Gots to have my joe as it keeps me in a straight line, If buzo don't bring me my cup, Gonna hafta brew my own brine.
Gotta have coffee, and for me it's with half & half and a touch of raw sugar. We've got a local roaster (Kansas City, MO, USA "The Roasterie")that does a great job and we typically buy theirs. Peets is good, and so is Dunkin Donuts (but it ain't too fancy sounding!)
Anybody else here do French press? I love it -- never made coffee any better at home than I do now.
Buddah/XHarp: tea gotta have cream in my book, and a little honey or sugar, or I'll take a pass. And I usually take a pass anyway in favor of coffee.
Just can't do espresso. And I'd agree with the sentiments above -- Starbucks isn't for me. Far too acidic.
