You may remember my comments on the positive response I received from Rupert Oysler concerning the poorly gapped reeds on a replacement set of plates, and how he offered to replace a broken reed for me. Not being one to not appreciate such service, I sent Rupert a half pound of freshly, home-roasted coffee. Yummmmmy...

The service was excellent, not only does the reed behave as all the rest on the 6 month old harp, but the entire turnaround time was less than one week!

So I put the old, now-repaired set on the 1847 classic wood comb, and it was an old friend came home again. I was holding the spare plates wondering what to do... Hmm......

Pulling out all my odds and ends, here's what I did. I had an 1847 Silver comb I bought when I was trying to decide if I wanted wood or plastic combs. I also had a Blues Session I wouldn't be playing. The plate screws are the same thread and length, and even the Session covers fit! So now I have a rare (?) backup , Seydel Blues Session 1847 Classic.

Nice job! I'm starting to collect an awful lot of harps and plates wish they all were interchangeable. I'm considering trying either seydel solist pro or Richard Sleigh's MB kits next I just don't want to mess with nails!!

We ought to start a thread with the dimensions and hole drill settings for different harps. It would be useful to know which plates would fit with which covers and which combs.

A database of that info might be useful. It could get complicated going back into the older harps, but contemporary stuff shouldn't be too tough.

In the meantime, here are a couple of pics of my Seydel 1847 Blues Session:

COVERS, COVER & PLATE SCREWS: Seydel Blues Session
PLATES: Seydel 1847
COMB: Seydel 1847 Silver

Note that I took a small, plastic-faced hammer and opened the backside of the covers. The only negative is that the covers are magnetic, and so I don't think it would like too many trips in the dishwasher.

Here's the breakdown on Seydels:

Family 1: all coverplates, reedplates combs interchangeable, Favorite, Favorite Black, 1847, 1847 Silver, Solist Pro,

Family 2: all coverplates, reedplates, combs interchangeable, Session, 1847 Silver Plus.

On Family 1 and Family 2, coverplates are interchangeable.

Black sheep of the family: Solist, interchanges with nothing made today, but reeds are interchangeable with prewar Bandmasters.
