These guys are seasoned pros with a sweet sound. I really enjoyed what the harp player was doing especially. He played to showcase the song and not himself ... well done!

That harp player sounds like Rod Piazza and Paul Butterfield combined... awesome

I agree - these guys should get a bit more recognition. I have been fortunate to have seen them live numerous times, taken a lesson years ago from Al Lerman (harpist), played with Bucky Berger (drummer) a couple of weeks ago and picked each of their brains relentlessly for as much info as I could get. They are all excellent musicians. John Mays (vocal) has a voice to die for, Omar is amazing on the fretless bass and Ted has just rejoined the band on guitar. Al plays the sax as well, which he took up after teaching himself to play harp. He tells stories about pestering all the big name harp players when they came to Toronto, Ontario, trying to get as many tips and hints as possible. He was too young to get into some of the places at the time but he usually found a way. (Ask him about accidently catching one of the Walters (Little or Big) polyester leisure suits on fire)(it's pretty funny now, not so much at the time) Fathead tours around a bit so try to catch them if they get any place near you - well worth it!!

That is a sweet groove. Tight, tasteful, with a double helpin' of soul. It makes it worthwhile to be alive just to hear this kind o' thing man. Can ya dig it?

I couldn't agree more about these guys. Check out "Bitter When I'm Old" on ytube. Just search in ytube on Fathead and the song title. Very cool song. The harp playing isn't anything fancy (by this board's standards), but the harplayer's tone is SWEET. I love the way he plays.

They seem to understand the concept of when not to play notes, and how a sparse groove behind the beat works.
