HollistonHarper? Zack P? Anyone? My bride and I will be there around 7:30 ish for dinner and hope to catch up with Adam and the boys before the show for a drink. If anyone is planning on attending how about we sit down and break bread?

@Adam: will you have time to let me buy you, Mr. Satan and Dave a drink prior to the show?

Life on the road always embarrasses me. We're playing Virginia Beach on Wednesday after a 900 mile drive in 36 hours. Up early, 250 miles to Philly, a big show there on Thursday. Then up very early and 380 miles to Portsmouth, hoping to beat the truly unbelievably bad Friday 2PM-8PM gridlock up the Eastern Seaboard on mid-August Friday afternoons. Then soundcheck.

It's just impossible to make plans like a human being under such conditions. We may run late, or need to catch a nap. That's just the road. She is my god when I'm on her. Thou shalt have no other gods but me.

Nice offer, though. I can GUARANTEE I'll accept a big fat drink right after the first set.

I was completely bummed out when Adam had to postpone his tour and rescheduled Portsmouth for next Friday. I have a conflict and don't see how I can make it. Incredibly disappointing, guess I'm going to have to travel South some day to see Satan and Adam perform.

At least I got to make a small donation to Sterling's van fund, per Adam's email today. Made me feel just a little (very little) better.

@Adam: Completely understood. Do your thing. I coached college hockey for many years and we travelled a lot. I always had a lot of friends, alums, etc. at different venues wanting to meet before games. I had the same type of issue; business is business. Unfortunately, I couldn'g grab a quick frosty in between periods! I'll see you at the break for sure.

@Holliston: too bad, Mark. I was looking forward to meeting up with you. Maybe again sometime.

OK,New England area MBHer's, my lovely bride and I will be getting to Portsmouth around 7:30 - 8:00 and sitting down for dinner before the show.

Unless my MBH shirts show up in the mail today I'll be the guy with the spiky hair, grey/brown/red beard and wearing a Red Sox golf shirt sitting with the pretty blond woman. Please stop by and introduce yourself if you see me!

You folks up there can read the Philly comments for yourself. YOu are anywhere near there, GO. They play great. In person was a whole different deal. Recordings ans snips on You tube cannot compare.

OK, here's my report:
We got to Portsmouth about 8:00 p.m. and ordered dinner. There was a group of irish musicians sitting in the back corner of the bar's first floor (S&A show to take place up stairs). These folk just sat there and jammed out irish tunes and it was very cool.

Gate to upstairs opened about 8:45 so I cut to the front of the line and grabbed a pretty good table; center stage front at the edge of the dance floor. Mary and I met Zack and his dad so we were fortunate enough to have them sit w/us for the show. Watching Zack as Adam set up and then when they played was like watching a kid open presents on Christmas...lol.

The show was simply excellent. Adam announced that their drummer, Dave, had come up sick so he wouldn't be joining them so they were back to a 2-man band for the night. Adam sat most of the evening and played the foot drum. He was concerned that it wasn't a 'pollished' show but I thought it was a great, raw performance, almost like seeing them out on the streets of Harlam (well, except surround by white folk in New Hampshire!).

The break was a blessing and a curse. The blessing was being able to meet Adam and chat for a few minutes. Just as nice a person live as he is online. He talked to Zack and I as if we had been pals for years. But even greater than that was that Mr. Satan came down and sat at OUR table (stole Zacks chair), signed autographs, took pictures, sermonized and was simply a joy to be around. There was a CLASSIC interchange between Zack and and Mr. Satan that I'll leave for him to tell if he chooses.

The curse of the break was that it was fairly long. My wife ran out of steam midway through the second set so we had to leave around midnight right after "Thunky Fing". I'm hoping I didn't miss too much.

Seeing Adam on Youtube or listening to his albums is one thing but only when you see him live can you truly appreciate his skill, musicianship, and what a great ENTERTAINER he is. My wife, not a big fan of the blues or harmonica but a musician herself, picked up on all of this. Back in April I dragged her out to see James Cotton and she loved the show. Midway through the first set of S&A she looked at me and said, "WOW, Cotton was great but this is at a whole other level". Now, understandably, Mr. Cotton is in the twilight of his career but Adam's groove and energy is simply incredible.

Thank you Satan and Adam.

You are correct - the live experience is totally different as I noted in the Philly show. Shame about the drummer. He's a good one. However, I am sure you were not shortchanged!!

Jay:

Thanks for the report. It was lousy, and a distraction, not to have our drummer. (FYI, he was back in action last night in Piermont NY and we had a fine gig.) You got the rough & ready set. We did what we had to do. I wasn't planning on sitting at the foot-drums all night, but that's what I had to do.

I was glad to meet Zack and his dad, and you, and others. YouTube certainly helped pull people down to the club!

One more gig to go: ATL on Monday night.

Adam makes it sound like the show sucked. It was awesome! It was also great to hear a sermon from Mister Satan (which I will talk about later :)).

Yes, I agree with Zack. The show was awesome. Satan & Adam are certainly 'professional' enough to pull it together as they did. I'm sure that Dave adds something to the show but I thought it was great to not only hear the music but to also watch the interaction between Mr. Satan and his apprentice.
