e.g. Missionary, reverse cowgirl, the wheelbarrow etc.
Ha! See what I did there? Actually, I'm talking about the riff on the song Hoochie Coochie Man. Feel free to chime in on the first thing too, though.
The riff that goes ( 2 1+4+ 2 3' 2 ), I've always thought of as the 1st-position version of Hoochie Coochie Man. Correct?
If so, the 2nd position version would go ( 1 2 1 2" 1 ), right?
And 3rd positon would be ( 6 8 6 7+ 6 ) and some really brutal shit down on the lower octave: ( 3" 4 3" 1+4+ 3")
If those are all correct, would anyone care to tab it out in other positions? What's a great, under-explored position for this most foundational of riffs?
EDIT: This is the Mannish Boy riff, not Hoochie Coochie Man.

4th is 2+ 3" 2+ 2 2+
5th is 3 5+ 3 4 3
very easy, just doesn't sound very bluesy
12th is tricky though..

Is there a difference between Hoochie Coochie Man and I'm A Man?

I play the Hoochie Coochie riff as 4in 5in 4in 5in 6out. Hoochie Coochie Man and Mannish Boy are different songs. You are probably thinking of I'm a Man by Bo Didldley and Mannish Boy by Muddy Waters which are very similar. The harmonica riff for Mannish Boy is (simplified version) 2in 4out 3in 2in. I play it as 2in 4out 3out 3in bent(first bend) 2in.

Scstrickland has a point. What I've transcribed here is the riff for Mannish Boy. Roughly:
2 4+ 2 3' 2
In fact Hoochie Coochie Man is slightly different phrasing. I think it goes:
2 3' 2 3' 4
Scstrickland is also not incorrect to call it "I'm A Man", as that's a Bo Diddley song in Muddy Waters style that Muddy rearranged as "Mannish Boy".
@Gamblershand: It sounds SO weird in those other positions. I played it in fourth position on a low G and I could swear it gains a menacing quality. Not very pleasant to play though. Fifth position sounds incredibly weak.

Elwood, I find these tab tables for the positions useful (but then again, I made them). You can work out that riff in all the positions that way. Note that 9th position has a typo on the root note. Should be 3''', not 3''. But who uses ninth anyway?

I thought I was a man of the World, but I don't know what a 'reverse cowgirl' is. Still, don't tell me; this probably isn't the place. ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa

Ah Mickil. I have much to learn from the fine patrons of this forum. But if there's one sacred artform which holds no secrets for me, it is the reverse cowgirl.

You're absolutely right. The riff I tabbed out initially was Mannish Boy. Same same but different. -------------------- www.murrayhunter.net
