I'm a big fan of Hakan's. I'm nuts about his style, and I like the effects he often uses.
He's been asked why he doesn't have a band. He said he just wants to do his own thing. Maybe he wouldn't have time for it, either. He has a nice looking place...I wonder what he does for a living.
he has to have plenty of time to be that good, an plus he goes busking alot. an he dosnt even take money when hes out buskin so i too wonder what he does for a living.
@jon thanks for that jon. Hakan is new to me, I love and try to play myself in a fluid style, he is very accomplished and great to listen to. I used to think Popper was the fastest gunslinger but these days......
Aww man, how good was that! And to think there are still people in this world who think of the harmonica as a toy. Thanks for putting that up jon that was great.
This solo doesn't thrill me the way it seems to be winning over some of you other guys. he's definitely not faster than john popper, but he's using some of his licks and patterns.
Some of it sounds really cool but he's clearly not using a standard tuned harmonica. Lets see him play some of those licks with overblows like the pros do it.
He's a great player, with a very individual sound, and I love that 4d 5d 6b 5d refrain he occasionally uses to offset his riffs (reminds me of "someday baby"/"trouble no more")...but, I dun't know there's something that doesnt quite hit the mark to these listening ears. Really close but not quite.
Maybe it's the way he hits the blue third, I'm used to more of a "lean" into the note, whereas it's more of a passing note in Hakan's phrasing. Someone above compared it to rock-styled guitar - I agree, it simply glides, but I guess like a bit more shape or nuance to the individual notes, and more of an internal rhythm to the phrasing.
No disrespect intended, he's many times the musician that this long-time intermediate level player will ever be. And perhaps also it's just the beer talking this late at night. cheers
Fair enough, I just liked the energy as it made me want to move. I hadn’t noticed that it wasn't a standard tuned harmonica though, so I’m glad you pointed that out :) I had a quick look at his video on You Tube, and he has been kind enough to publish the equipment he used to record it , which I found quite interesting and instructive from a novices point of view.
