What's your favorite harp at the moment. I don't have any custom harps yet, so my current favorite is a Seydel 1847 in the key of A.

I just cant get over the sound of an A harp... The Bb is a VERRRRRRRRY close second only due to the wealth of tunes played by Adam using it...both SP 20's

i have a few, it depends on what we're playing.
mostly i use a D delta frost in 3rd. nice.
low F df is nice.
G delta frost, 3rd position.
Bb, a very nice sound to it
not least, a hering 5148 chrom in low C, 3rd. with the bassman and the e-v m43u (modded), this is an awe inspiring combination.

Prewar Seydel Bandmaster G, made around 1915, retrofitted with an American Chestnut comb, 2 blow tuned up for fourth position. Had a weird tuning that started out on the 2 blow note and had an extra hole up high. Once I tuned up the 2 blow, it's became the perfect fourth position harp

Just bought a Hohner 150 Anniversary key of C. Put old Big River cover plates that I had opened up. Plays like a stick of butter. Don't know why. It's just an MS harp. It does have a solid plastic comb but from what everyone says the comb doesn't make that much of a difference. Maybe its that one in five you get that is great.

Tough one. I like Deltas, Special20's and Seydel solist pros. The Setdels sound sweetest.

I do not have any custom harps as of yet. I have tried Lee Oskars (major and minor tuned), Hohners (Marine band, Pro Harp, Blues harp, Golden Melody, Special 20, Big River), Seydels (Blues Session std. and 1847 Silver), and Suzukis (Promaster, Bluesmaster, and Fire Breath). For playability it is the Suzuki Fire Breath with the Suzuki Bluesmaster a close second. For tone I like the Marine band, but out of the 5 or 6 I own a couple are just unplayable for me right out of the box when it comes to bending on certain holes so they just sit. The rest are so leaky I'll have to get more chops or give up cigars (NOT) to make them viable. My loudest harp is definitely the 1847 Silver.
If I could only have one set of stock harps on a desert island they would definitley be the Suzuki Fire Breath.

Weltmeister Blackbird in D is a really comfy harp to play right out of the box. Got a SP20 in Bb and a Marine Band in C that follow close behind.

It's got to be my MB Deluxes and 1847 Silvers. Can't wait for my MB Crossover to arrive though. Apparantly, Hohner are on their hols at the moment, hence the mid-September release, I presume. ---------- 'If it sounds GOOD to you, it's bitchen; if it sounds BAD to YOU, it's shitty' - Frank Zappa

I have a self customized sp 20 that's broken in beyond belief... the reeds look rusty but I think for some reason that's making them more responsive and easy to bend because it plays and bends with just the lightest breath. ---------- It's all in the tongue

1930's Marine Band in G. It belonged to my wife's grandfather who brought it with him from northern Italy when he emmigrated to America. He was coal miner in Wyoming for a long time before he moved to South San Francisco and became a garbage man. I just imagine him playing that harp after getting home from a hard day int he mines. There's just a ton of mojo in that harp. I fully restored it, and it plays like a dream and sounds like nothing else... ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"

Got lots that I love ie Promasters, Bluesmasters, Lee Oskars but the 'one' that I find I am consistently picking up is a Harpmaster in A. Don't much like the MBs or Blues Harps and can accept that SP20s are OK ie when I fluke it for a good one.

Bluzdude Custom D Marine Band I sing alot in E and A But I like my C harps too I also have a prewar MB in C that surprised me how good it is. If Hohner just dialed back and started making them like they used too I'd be happier then with any new innovative harp Stay tuned I'm waiting for a Buddha Harp that I'm expecting to change these rankings

I have an 1847 Silver in A, customized by Elk River Harmonicas. Its my "no excuses" harp. If I can't play it on that harp, its my fault, not a leaky harp or a harp that's not gapped properly.

At the moment it's my MB in Bb, not because it's as good as say the A even, but it's one I thought was unplayable when OTB, but I stripped it a dozen times and now I'm really enjoying playing it every day to break it (and me) in. If I blow it out, I've got a deluxe as a spare.
One thing I've noticed about these hopeless cases is they're only hopeless when played pianissimo in the home environment - at work in the washroom it sounds great played mf* or louder. This includes my Ab, which was also really bad OTB.

Right at the moment it's my Suzuki Promaster 350V in G. I once bought an MB in the same key and invested quite some time in tweaking it (replaced nails with screws, reedwork etc.) but I still can't get anything useful out of that harp. Thanks to the valves on the Promaster I can play a full blues scale in 1st, 2nd and 3rd position starting on hole 1 and ending on hole 10. Having so many notes to play with is just cool. Not to speak of the clarity and expressiveness of the blow notes. At last I can explore the fantastic world of the low harps without having to worry about the 1 OB (or any other OB for that matter). Being so low it's also easier to bend the draws on holes 7 to 10. It's just too much fun.
