OK guys after lots of thought I've finally purchased a Hohner 280/C. Any tips on where I can get some good info?
ALso - I know about LW/George Smith's stuff - but are there any definitive tracks that people feel are a must have to pull apart while playing Chromatic harps?

Most people seem to learn "Blues in the Dark" By George Smith as it's in Eb (slide pushed in and played in 3rd).
Work Song by William Clarke (3rd in D) is a good one to learn as well. Especially for the big octave sound.
Any William Clarke chromatic stuff is good to learn.
Rick Estrins "It Sure Seems Strange" is a good one as it's played in "A" on a "C" chromatic if I recall correctly.
I wouldn't bother about the definitive tracks to learn. I would say just learn any track that speaks to you.

look up william clarke's take on "the work song".
james cotton's version of "23 hours too long".
these are 2 songs that i worked with early on once i had gotten into third position, both are in key of D which is right for 3rd position on a C.

If you're pulling Clarke's stuff, "Greasy Gravy" is about as straightforward as it gets for using your ten-hole mind to begin to apply to the chrom. It's a good exercise, since it really only sounds good when you swing it.
