I recently got an i-Tunes gift card for my B-day. My first thought was "I don't know what to get" then I had a Idea. I'll let you tell me what to get. What a great way to expand my horizons. At first I was thinking that I would have people suggest their favorite song, any genres, any artist. And then I realized someone would suggest Butthole Surfers or Brittany Spears or something that, although you love it, would be a waste of $ and space on my i-pod because I would never listen to it.
So here is the deal.
Recommend your Favorite/Bad@ss/Coolest/Most listened to BLUES HARMONICA song and I will buy the first 10 that come up (unless I already own them) The Idea is to get a wide variety of music so please suggest one song rather than a whole album.
To help out I have: Whammer Jammer Juke Best of SBWII Done with the Devil and many more.
Spending my $$$ ain't free! please tell me why I should buy that song and/or what I should listen for in it. Have at it. Let me know what to get.
All input is appreciated, Thanks y'all

I'd recommend the whole "live at rum boogie" CD by Billy Gibson- his stuff is just so fresh and energetic
If I had to choose one song I'd have to choose "What is Love?" but Adam gives a lesson on "Polk Salad Annie" so that one might be worth a buy too. ---------- It's all in the tongue

My latest favorite is Papa John Kolstad's "Beans Taste Fine." It reminds me of the good old early 60's when we used to listed to Jim Kweskin's Jug Band. . .

The Best of Lightnin Hopkins --you gotta be a fan of the old stuff for this--Sonny Terry is on several cuts (I think--pretty hard to miss when he wails). Anyway--a good one to me, as long-time fan of Lighnin. . .

"An Offer You Can't Refuse - Big Walter Horton
In fact any album with Big Walter on it. Here's a few of the good ones.
The JOB recordings with Johnny Shines are simply incredible!
"Live at the Knickerbocker" is great too
"Can't Stop Lovin You"
Also another great album is "Harmonica Ace - "George Smith"
Absolutely any album by William Clarke is killer too!
For a more modern style of harp. Anything by Carlos Del Junco.

Junior Wells's "In the Wee Hours" is my favorite harp instrumental ever.
Sonny Terry's "Blowin' the Blues" is an old instrumental that makes me want to throw my harps away every time I hear it.
"Honeydripper" by Big John Wrencher is awesome too. He was a great one-armed player from Mississippi who was really under-recorded.

Kim Wilson's version of "Trust My Baby" (by SBWII) from the "Tigerman" album, for some kick-ass first position playing. Also Mitch Kashmar's "Dirty Deal" from the "Live at Labatt" album for more first position magic.
P.S. Stick to the "I-tunes Plus" versions that don't have the digital rights management crap.

A few more modern choices
I Can't Quit You No - Paul Delay Surely one of the most original harp solos out there. Surprises me every time I hear it
Dummy on Your Knee/Caravan/Aint You Trouble/Red Top - Gary Primich
Cool Breeze - Rick Estrin and the Nightcats
Minor Mambo - Gary Smith (especially the live version - it's an amazing take on some of those "Hoodoo Man Blues" riffs)

According to Last FM the harp song I have listened to the most was C. C. Rider by Satan & Adam.
Another one I'd suggest is Charlie Musselwhite - Christo Redemptor.

All of these are great. My personal favorite James Cotton - 100% Cotton. Easily one of the most badass blues albums ever cut. In the mid seventies the man had no equal. Pure greatness and beyond. If you buy this and are disappointed, I'll send you the ten dollars.

I forgot to mention Steve Guyger.
William Clarke described Steve Guyger as the greatest harmonica player he had ever heard.
Anything by Steve is a pure unadulterated joy to listen too.

No good that i-Tunes don't have Paul Delay's "Take it from the Turnaround" which has I Can't Quit You No. The album is a mix of two from earlier - Just This One and Paulzilla
you can find it on emusic.com though, which I think is a great site - less mainstream music on it, but that suits me fine

I'll second "Creeper Creeps Again." Listened to from front to back, it's just about the most perfect uptempo long-form blues harmonica instrumental ever played.
Also "Down at Antone's" by The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Kim Wilson's perfect long-form instrumental.
"Trouble in Mind" by Big Walter, off the aforementioned BIG WALTER WITH CAREY BELL. All the cuts are good, but this cut is especially memorable because he makes so much happen with so few notes.
I'm assuming you have Little Walter's "Back Track." If not, that's a must. He redefines the warble on that one cut.
I personally think that Jason Ricci's slower remake of "Down at the Juke," off one of his recent albums, is a keeper--one of the best things he's ever done, if you're talking about stright-ahead in-the-tradition blues. The two introductory intrumental choruses are masterful; one is played on a higher harp, one on a lower harp.

Only ONE album, HB?
In the old days, I would say "East-West" by Butterfield BB.
Today, if you can find a copy: "My Blues" by Kim Wilson. I can't describe how tasty it is...just that it is my fave and I never get tired of hearing it.
Kirk Fletcher likes it alot, too.
Every cut is superb: West Helena Woman, Your Funeral & My Trial, Five Long Years, Tell Me Why, Break It Up Baby, Things Ain't Right, Workin' For a Livin', Date Bait, It's Too Late Old Man; and of course Kim's title cut, My Blues, among the songs.

Well, there are a few ways to go. I always suggest looking for a CD with a hot woman on the cover. Remember, every time you play it you can set your media player to display cover art.
The next thing to do is to look at the music charts. There are two ways to go. Buy the album at the very top, or at the very bottom. Either way, you can't go wrong.
Next, pick your format. Some people swear by CD's. Other people like vinyl. Still others do everything digitally. Be original. I recommend either wax cylinders or 8-tracks.
Finally, get yourself a set of white wall tires. I'm not sure why, but Billy Joel insists this is a very important step.
I was going to finish this up with a link to how to share a Pandora channel and my link, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it. I've suggested before we ought to do some channel sharing to find some great blues, but every time I hit the share button on Pandora nothing happens. My account name on Pandora is nacoran. Mostly I have weird stuff. Anyone know how to share channels? (I'm running my virus check in the background and my computer is crawling.)

Well, I purchased 100% Cotton as well as "Back Track" from Little Walter.
As always, more purchases to follow as income permits.
Thanks for all the input. Time to go listen and learn.
