A short while ago, a thread got hot and bothered and Adam said to someone on the forum, "don't let it get your goat". The other day I was listening to a radio programme which was looking at the origins of some of the things which people say and this apparently is how this one came into being.
Years ago when horses got agitated, it was found that if you were to introduce a goat to stand in with the horse, the goat would have a calming effect on the horse and quickly quieten it down.
Therefore, if a horse got agitated people would say "go and get your goat" and over time this became a saying which meant that dont let a situation get out of hand or you'll have to go and get your goat, which then became don't let it get your goat.
I think I got that about right. I'm sure the professor will correct me if I'm wrong.
I found that interesting. Waa Waa Waa. Back to my vibrato practice.

The way I heard it was if you wanted to get the horse upset you went and stole his goat. High spirited race horses had a goat as a calming effect and if you wanted to throw them off their stride, steal the goat just before the race. But who knows for sure - all I know is, I've gone thru a lot of goats. ---------- If it ain't got harp - it ain't really blues!!!!
