I have been doing some work regapping some harps of mine and i seem to come across the same problem on almost all of them. I have no problems adjusting all other reeds except that infamous 3 hole draw. The problem is I loose the volume on that hole which is a pain when it comes to play chords. Any suggestions? Puzzled........

normally the problem is with the blow reed. i had the same issue for a long time an i was allways tweeking the draw reed (cause you normally draw on the 3 hole) then i adjusted the gap on the blow reed an tada it fixed it.

How are you gapping it?
I've never found the gap to decrease volume, unless you've opened it so far that it takes excessive lung power to get it to sound out.
I try to gap all 20 reeds the same with a feeler gauge from the autoparts store. Then I spend time playing it and make small adjustments as I see fit to my personal playing style.
Most of the time the "adjustment" I speak of is a little bit of bending on the very tip of the reed. Example: if I've set all gaps the same and I find one reed that sticks, instead of opening the gap the entire length of it, I may simply put a small scoop up on the tip.

I just got Richard Sleighs book and it reminded me of something I used to do and got out of the habit. When working on Harps small adjustments and then let the harp sit for a day. Metal wants to "spring back" to it's former form so adjustments should be small and go back to it after it "settles"

Yep!
Turbocharge your harmonica, volume 1 is the title by Richard Sleigh.
customharmonicas.com/r-sleigh harmonicamasterclass/turbocharge.htm
Looked to me the real focus was on different tunings though?

Really good basic book on the proper shape of the reed, proper gap and how to use tools to tune the reed. VERY basic. Reminds you that this ain't brain surgery. I need to get a tuner that works well enough to do the small changes

FYI everyone,
I just read on HarpL that there is a major typo in Richards book. He has corrections for the error and is trying to track down everyone that has purchased his book. He wants to send out the corrected pages. If you have bought this book contact Richard for these corrections.

That being said he is correcting the tuning charts with a stick on page as he ships so anyone ordering will get the correct tuning charts

For Bluzdude46.
Google Seventh String Tuner. This is a free download tuner and it works pretty good. If your computer has a mic. that is all you need.
