Ok I was reading through our area Blues calendar this morning looking to catch some good Blues in the area this weekend. There is a Barbershop Acoustic Jam in Riverdale MD on Saturdays from 1-5 that I haven't had a chance to catch yet. So I see it's on the schedule with an additional line that says Paul Rishell and Annie Raines playing there at 7:30 so I emailed to make a reservation thinking do the Jam, go grab some dinner and go back and see Paul and Annie, turns out that Annie's doing a seminar for Harp Players at 11 am before the Jam so I'm now making a day of it!!! Sometimes life is just good!

Lucky you. Annie is a great player and hooked up with Paul, the music is amazing. I'm sure their live show is equaly captivating and you'll have a great time of it.
Any chance you'd be willing to share what you learn after the seminar?

I've been fortunate to have taken a few lessons with Annie over the last couple of months. She's a great teacher. Worth doing her group seminar, even if it's for beginners. She'll probably spend time working on chugging, which will set you up nicely for the next HPC!

I went to a concert of Paul and Annie's this summer, and saw Annie last Friday at a Blues harmonica harp-off with some other great harpers. I really like their music. Sounds like you're going to have a great day, have fun!

@HH: Did you take your lessons w/Annie at her house in Cambridge or elsewhere? I had been in contact with her about a year ago but had no cash at the time. Do you know if she's doing any 'group' things around us?

It was a great day!! Got to Jam with some guys I hadn't met before from south of me after the Seminar. Unfortunately it was a beginners seminar and I think I would belong in a more Intermediate class that she did Thursday night. Shame I didn't know about it beforehand. The Beginners seminar only had 8 people in it so I was still reminded of some basic stuff that I take for granted and I notice that I cleaned a few bad habits up when I played in the Jam afterwards. It's also good for supporting this small non prof so I'm ok with the expense of another beginner class.

Jay-actually, she's in Newton. Not sure about group lessons, I'll ask and let you know.

Yea I want you to come down for a Saturday. The Jam there is acoustic and nice. Very friendly for beginners. People are willing to teach.
