I have a Shure 520DX that has an issue with the grounding wire. I have a new mic so I don't have a desire to fix this one. I guess my question is whether or not it is worth anything. Sorry for the confusion.

Ha ha am I missing something here or is this a wind up post?

So, you buy a new car or a car you like better and
want to sell the other car but the engine won't turn over.
Not only that can't even take it for a test drive ha ha

If this is genuine than look man, fix the cable then sell it.

If you can't fire up the engine then it is worthless.

If you give me $50 as a deposit (for good faith)....I'll fix the cable and then give you back the fifty bucks once it's fixed. If it's not fixable, I'll keep the fifty. Will that work for you?

Fixing the earth connection is pretty easy. Spend a little time with a soldering iron and sort it out, then either keep it as a backup or if you really don't like it sell it. It'll fetch a little more if it actually works.

If you want some guidance on how to fix it, tell us exactly what's wrong - have you looked at the cable connections?

I agree with MrVerylongusername. This is a good opportunity for you to learn how to fix this problem.
You don't have to have a background in electronics to wire a mic.
A non-working 520DX will not bring much.

I got this advice from Dave over at greenbulletmics.com

It's a common problem with the factory wiring. What you will need to do is re-wire the mic. You can use the same cable if you want or use a standard guitar cable. Get a good one if you do replace it.
If you cut all the wires and pull the cable out of the mic, you'll probably see all the broken contacts at the spring. They solder the shielding (bare wires) from the cable to the spring, then solder a single wire to the spring which goes to the mic element for the ground. What I do is drill a small hole into one of the 2 nub's inside the shell and either tap it or use a sheet metal screw to secure a ground lug. Run the cable right up into the shell. Strip about 3 inches or so of the cable and put the spring in place on the mic. Run the cable up into the spring as far as it will go and run the shielding up into the shell. Solder it to the ground lug and also solder a single wire to the lug too which you will connect to the mic element. Solder the other wires to their respective contacts on the element and you'll be good to go.

What Dave at greenbulletmics.com said is exactly what you do. Mics with the 5/8" screw on connectors are even more simple to do that one with a cable. The 1/4" female jack you see on some Turner/Chop mics are even simpler yet!
