Looks like HarmonicasDirect has the Manji in keys A C and G with other keys to follow but at £54 a shot, I'm gonna sit on the fence for a while. Why do we Brits always get stuffed?

I reckon it's the world just giving us all payback for the Colonial days! :-)
Either that or Brown,Darling and Mandelson lining their own pockets as usual.

I notice the Hohner Crossover is also on the site at £43.99GBP.

There's no need to punish me for what the upper class, greedy Brits did years ago. Nothing to do with me guv. It's like when Ken Livingstone apologised on my behalf, for the slave trade. Once again it had nothing to do with me. How about making the families of those who gained from it suffer by making them forfeit their mansions and country estates? Makes me sick. I may have to cut my allegiance to Suzuki and try a Hohner but I'll still get shafted.

Only on the MBH forum can a seemingly positive bit of news devolve into this in just 3 posts by 2 posters! :^)

From Rocking Ron's music 4 Less site in the US.

Suzuki Manji M-20
Price: $45.00 with Free Shipping, charging for orders now, shipping second week of October or so. That would be £28.35 in the UK. See, we are getting ripped.

Ha ha ha! Well us Brits do like to moan you know! :-)

Even though I plan on sticking with my 1896 Marine Band harps. I'll be interested to hear some reviews on both the Crossover and the Manji when they are out there and in daily use.

"$45.00 with Free Shipping"

Yeah, that's exactly how much these harps should cost, and not a penny more! You guys ARE getting screwed....

Kingley,

"Ha ha ha! Well us Brits do like to moan you know!"

Me, moan? Never! Well, perhaps just when there's a week in the month.

tooka,

Don't start me off on red Ken.

Back to the price, though. I suppose we all got our exchange rate bollocksed up in the UK when those scum-bucket-parasite-leech-bankers shafted us all.

Oops, I'm moaning again. Hard not to.

Listen, I've got a Ph.D in moaning, just ask the missus.
The other day she asked me what I was moaning about and I had to say that I was really pissed because I couldn't think of anything to moan about. It soon passed, I found something on the news, and then the weather and there was a most ridiculously patronising advert...anyway, you get the picture.

My suggestion for anyone in the UK who wants to buy a Manji.

Buy them in the States and have them shipped to friend over there. Who can then send them over to you marked as "Gift". That way you avoid the import tax.

John at Coast2Coast says he expects them toward the end of October and estimated cost between $40 and $45.

Kingley,

You're not a banker or a tax recluse, are you?

tooka,

I firmly believe that not moaning after a certain age isn't normal. Not unless one has been labotomised.

Yes buy them from the States. I also cannot understand why the price of $45US blows out to $69A when the conversion puts it ca $50A. I have been quoted this price for delivery in October -limited keys available.

I was buying a lot of Harps direct from the US ca 2 years ago when the US & Aus Dollar was on a par. Prices were cheap as chips ie Harpmasters then were $15US & Bluesmasters $18US, Lee Oskars $25US. Here the Harpmaster was then unavailable and Bluesmasters were $39 & Lee Oskars $50. Freight was US$12.50 and covered 5 - 6 harps. Delivery was exceptional ie I was able to lodge an internet order on a Tuesday evening here (Monday in the US) & delivery to my front door was on Thursday morning. I could get 5 good quality harps for under A$100.

It don't happen anymore. Since the financial crunch the dollars went out of whack, prices went sky high, freight costs doubled and like everyone else on retirement incomes I have much less play money! But it's gradually coming back.

Fortunately I bought heaps of harps when the going was good. And even at our high prices compared to the US they are not as bad as the UK.

And don't forget that there was a thread asking "How do you play the Manji fast?"
I can't find it, so I don't know if there was any answer. My contribution would have been "What makes you think Suzuki even considered it?"

Thanks Tooka for the Rocking Ron tip.

I had the good luck of killing my Bb yesterday, Just in time to buy a Manji, ordered mine for $45 and free shipping. Based on the prices of his other harps; Marine band $31 and Big River $22, looks like this guy really does sell music 4 less. The site said delivery was 2nd week of Oct or thereabouts. Here is a link if you guy want to check it out.

I'm with you all the way, from people apologising on my behalf for something I had nothing to do with to living in rip off Britain.
I was in Memphis about three years ago and bought a Green Bullet for £50. At the time the U.K. price was around £120. Amps were less in $'s than we were paying in £'s and at that time the exchange was nearly 2 dollars to the pound.
I will also admit to shouting at the T.V. during the news. The air was blue while I was watching that unelected crook Mandy give his speech at the Labour party shindig yesterday. Got to save my voice though 'cos the Tory bang is next week.

I have purchased several harmonicas from Rockin' Ron's and think he does a good job.

When this topic came up, I shot him an e-mail. Here's his reply:

"I am taking orders now for second week of Oct delivery. ETA so far from Suzuki.
thanks, Ron

wheezer,

I know we're off topic, but never mind.

I've got to a point whereby I can barely watch the Bolshevic - oops, I mean British - Broadcasting Corporation anymore. When I do, I can actually feel the ulcers forming in my stomach.

Anyway, I'll shut up now before I bring on a torrent of disapproval.

I don't understand why politics arouses such strong emotions. When I see David Cameron saying that he's going to rule the world with the assistance of John Redwood, Sebastian Coe, Michael Howard and Oliver Letwin, I just feel sadness at the irony of it. And yet some people boil with rage and throw up a little in their mouths. Clearly they are a bit emotionally unstable and it is dangerous to give them voting rights.

Let alone allow them anywhere near a harmonica.

Incidently, are there any politicians who are members of this forum?

I agree with Jack:

Let's see what price the Manji is at the festival at the end of October in Bristol. Harmonicas Direct will have an opportunity to 'fess up to their margin

I will vouch for Rockin Ron's. That is where I get my Suzuki's. He has the best prices and if you order models that are in stock (I like the Fire Breath) you get them very quickly. Free shipping in the US is cool as well.

What is a Macanudo? Is it a good thing, say, more tasty and relaxing than my Amber Leaf tobacco? Bit of a laugh, this thread.

Macanudos are things that come in boxes that you can make really good guitars out of. the boxes smell really nice, but I haven't the faintest idea about their contents. Perhaps Monica Lewinski knows better?

Hell I looked at the site & cigars are super expensive!

I am (was) sort of interested in trying to build a cigar box 3 string guitar. Being a (reformed) non smoker it would be an expensive way into building & owning such a guitar. I have a real guitar, which is 30yo ,which I cannot play but I will have to just remove 3 of its strings and try to learn it!

I am more a Monte Cristo fan myself. With a nice glass of Meukow Cognac. On the deck, in the northeast fall weather. Not often. And not a demo model.

In Britain cigars are insanely expensive, so I haven't smoked any since I last went to Spanish territory 10 years ago. I never understood cigars and brandy - that's fire with fire.
My favourite smoking experience is the best hand-made Canarian puro and Ron y Miel. (it comes already bottled, but it you mix one part 40% rum with one part honey and that's probably close.)
Cigars and port are second best to that.

Get your cigar boxes from a tobacconists shop. You can buy just the empty boxes for ~$5. The Macanudo boxes are really quite nice for making CBG's. I used one for mine and it sounds great....

There is a J&R Cigar outlet in northern NJ. We go there more for great buys on clothing and perfume and stuff but they sell some awesome cigar boxes for a buck each in wood or free for cardboard. Very useful.
