I just got a behringer GDI21 for gigs where we're packed into a shoebox and there's no room to swing a cat, let alone stick an amp. It's Behringer's version of the SansAmp at a fraction of the cost.
It only cost £30 so I didn't have high expectations, but I was really impressed last night when I gave it a spin. It's basically a DI box with digital amp modeller. High and Low tone controls, adjustable gain and an output level trim.
It has 3 amp types - Californian, British and Tweed; 3 amp settings - Hot, Hi-gain and clean and 3 mic placement emulation controls. Like any good DI box it also has a ground lift to help with hum problems.
Plus side Cheap (£30) Good useable sounds 1/4" unbalanced and XLR balanced output with gold plated connectors Doubles as a standard DI in bypass mode did I mention it was cheap?! £30!!!
Cons Not the most robust construction - breaks my no plastic rule ah well! (but it was only £30!!!) Eats batteries and no phantom power (but does have a 9v DC socket) It's a guitarists pedal, so unsurprisingly most of the settings are only good with guitar - but I did get some nice sounds with the Tweed/Clean/Classic setting, bass up treble down and a fair bit of gain. No additional FX - reverb or delay would have made it perfect, but I have another pedal for that and did I mention this was only £30?!
It's new kit, so I don't know how it'll perform under pressure - it'll see it's first outing at a gig this Thursday.
did I mention it was only £30?!

Sounds like it could have some potential. Let us know how it goes.
How much was it again? I can't remember! Did you tell us? :-)

Yeah it's a DI box, so it goes direct into the PA through a lo-z balanced XLR (as in standard vocal mic) cable. Alternatively you can run a guitar cable to your amp or a line level PA input. I haven't tried it, but I presume the 1/4" and XLR outs work together, so you could use a small amp as a monitor while going into the desk. It's all impedance matched and good to go! Not bad for 30 quid (had I mentioned the price?)
Oh yeah forgot to mention that the volume when the amp sim is bypassed appears to be controlled by the same setting as the amp sim, so when you go from amped sound to clean, there's no drop in signal level.

Let us know your review and do you think its appropriate for open mic's where there is just the pa?
