i FINALLY got mine today in the mail. ordered it over a month ago. it was on back order or something. anyway, worst instrument ever. i think if i were to play this every day my teeth would fall out. i dont like it.
there is a trick to it. i used to mess with them, had a set from about 1 1/2 inch to about 6 inch. at some point i set them aside and devoted myself to harp almost exclusively.
they are a cute novelty and maybe useful for jug band and deep country.
I'm weird. Being weird, well, I discovered that those little dental floss on a stick things, well, if you hold them between your teeth and pluck them they make a halfway decent noise. By adjusting how much is sticking out you can change the pitch. They eventually break. They aren't good enough except as a novelty, but if you ever happen to have one and twenty minutes to kill...
Yeah, I tried one recently too. I'm sure that it just requires a goodly amount of practice. MadCat seems to have done his woodshedding quite nicely. Thanks for sharing that video Andrew.
