I tried it, didn't notice any difference until I let my Harp case sit in my car a little longer then I expected to and the wax got soft and gummed up the reeds pretty well. I have since removed it from all my SP20's

I used to do with all my blues harps because I couldn't get them to stop squeeling when I overblew, and that seemed to stop it.
I switched to Marine Bands and don't have the need for wax anymore.

I use nail polish on the just the reeds I ob on. I've noticed a difference, especially on the 4 hole. It can dull the sound a bit, but I've had some issues with embossing too tight as well.
Worth it if you bend the obs or get a lot of reed ringing. ---------- Mike Fugazzi http://www.myspace.com/niterailband http://www.youtube.com/user/NiteRail http://www.twitter.com/NiteRail http://www.facebook.com/mike.fugazzi

I just gap them to get the OB's. Never used wax or nail polish on my harps. However I don't use overblows a lot. Although I do intend to try using them more.
Chris Michalek or Joe Spiers should be able to give a good explanation as to whether or not it's worth doing.

Chris and Joe are more than likely going to tell you it isn't needed. It does indeed affect the pitch of the reed, so re-tuning is needed if you are going for absolute tone.
You can bend the overblows without the wax, and as far as the reed ringing or squeeling, that is a matter of harp set up as well as technique. I used to battle all of this crap guys, but now I know it can all be done without the wax.

I've only had a problem on one of my harps, and it was on the 7 overdraw. It would play the overdraw but if you held it for too long the note would start too break up and make rattling sound. I didn't have any nail polish so i tried putting an extemely small piece of tape on the center of the draw reed (the one that chokes out during the overdraw), like I'd read on Pat Missin's site and it fixed the problem. I don't know why it was just that one reed that had the problem, maybe the rivet wasn't as tight, but I was able to easily fix it.
