Harmonicas Unlimited, 1924-1949.
I found it listed on this website: http://www.davegage.com/tipsstuf/players.html under early blues.
I'm having trouble finding anything similar to "Harmonica Blues-the 20's & 30's". Anyone know of anything else like this?

I know the problem. I've been looking and not found anything yet.
It's basically caused by the fact that all those recordings were on 78's. Some of them were recorded but never even released, and the metal masters for almost all of them were melted down during the war for recycling purposes! All but about 3 originals of DeFord Bailey for example have become unavailable because every record has been broken over the years or, more hopefully, just forgotten about in someone's loft. Basically you've got to wait until all the old people are dead and their descendants have carefully gone through their effects rather than thrown them out with the trash.

Yeh I was thinking along those lines. It's a real shame.
I found this CD however: http://www.amazon.com/Harp-Blowers-1925-1936-Various-Artists/dp/B000000J6O
which is also available on spotify, and has 11 tracks by deford bailey!
anyone else know any old time harp CD's?

If you do a Google Search for Deford Bailey cds, Noah Lewis cds or Pre war harmonica cds. It brings up quite a lot of stuff.

'The Great Harp Players 1927-1936' and 'Black & White Hillbilly Music: Early Harmonica Recordings from the 1920s & 1930's', it can both be found on amazon too.

This arrived in the post today and it's excellent, although the surface noise could have been cleaned up a little bit: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000000J6O/ref=sr_1_olp_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1255779465&sr=1-1
It's got what it says - all the original recordings - 11 by DeFord Bailey, 23 tracks in total. Track 16 freaked me out a little - C.& N.W. Blues by D.H. "Bert" Bilbro. It's a train song with a difference - it's played in 1st position on a Bb harp, with the train whistle varying between 2, 3 and 4 draw! It took me a while to work that one out.
Only problem is it won't play on my Expensive CD player (Arcam), so I'm playing it through my £30 DVD player! ---------- Bollocks, Wiglaf!

Hey Andrew I'm a lp collector and I can usually find some odd stuff. I did find that album, made in 1986. (Or re-issued) http://www.wirz.de/music/stovefrm.htm (About the middle of the page)
You might find more in the Library of Congress too.

The best place I have ever found to buy blues CD's from is www.bluebeatmusic.com.
Their catalogue is immense.
