The talk of the forum is Manji , how about the brazilian Bends harps , Pat Missin gives them a very good review , they come in JI , open covers sided vents (at least their Juke model) , phosphor bronze reeds (just like manji) , wood comb(again the Juke model) and the same price .

I wasn't impressed with the Bends harps I tried at SPAH. Not like I was with the Manji.

I was sent several of their diatonic and chromatics to review. I did not like them at all, I paid to send them back.

Appearance-wise, it does look nice, but I have to ask... Has anyone, anywhere, ever found hole numbering a useful feature on any harp? I mean, if I had the skills and oral dexterity to allow me to make use of those numbers while playing, whether etched, stamped, or engraved, I would have to believe that I would have women happily lined up at the door awaiting their turn.

And if you can't count to five to find the proper hole (the greatest number you would theoretically have to count, if you possessed the logic to start at the proper end in relation to the hole sought), then you should start with a more basic instrument like the kazoo, triangle, or wood block, and work your way up.

Good point Randy, Maybe they should just have reference points like dots on a guitar neck. But, on the other hand, the numbers are the reference point. I use them because they are there. Does any harmonica manufacturer produce a harp without numbers?

The Hohner Meisterklasse is numberless, perfectly smooth. That feature along with the ergonomic covers and aluminum comb make it one of my favorites.

The Dannecker Blues is based on the Meisterklasse but has a brass comb with "rounded" holes. Also no numbers. It weighs about the same as my green bullet!

Randy -- that got an LOL over here.

Somebody else does numberless -- just can't remember who it is. I remember I was thinking about buying one, but was skeered off by that.

I have two Bends Juke harps, one is definitely JI tuned around 443, the other one is far from it. The thirds were not flattened as much and it was waaaay up around 446. So I'd say tuning might be inconsistent, although I've only sampled these two. On both when I removed the covers, the screws inside were loose. They were both gapped too wide, but would play well for a hard player. I've completely set up the "A" and it made a very good harmonica for a blues context (not appropriate for overblowing, but OB'd on the 6 ok). The combs are nice, just a couple quick swipes on the sandpaper/flat surface and they were perfect. Covers are really nice. Overall it's a decently average harp, just a different flavor that's all. They ALL have their problems.
