11 days to go!

I can hardly wait to watch Jason play harmonica with Walter Trout in Wolverhampton on the 28th.

I'm going with a guitarist friend of mine who when I played him some of Jason's gig videos on YouTube remarked "he is the most incredible harmonica player I have ever heard in my life!"

I've just checked both jason's website and the Shepards Bush Empire site and there's nothing to say they have been cancelled. I can't get myspace at work so I don't know what the blog says....can you summarise it for us Mr VLU??

The gig's on, but no Jason apparently...

"Tour Cancelled with Walter Trout

Hey everyone I regret to inform you all that I will not be touring with Walter in England this month on the 26th-30th. Regretfully, I am not at liberty to expound on the details of these plans changing suffice to say the music Biz can be complicated and frequently troubling on many levels.

To all my fans planning to see me in England with Walter I am sorry this happened and I highly recommend you continue with your plans to see Walter as he is a great artist and the show will be incredible regardless.
Sincerely
Jason Ricci"

I'm pissed off to say the least.

I probably won't bother going now, as I have no real interest in watching Walter Trout. Watching Jason play was the only reason I bought the tickets.

Just another thing to add to the huge list of thing's that have gone wrong for me this year.

Oh well life's a bitch and then you die!

Awww, that sucks guys. What a way to find out too. Surely you all will have another chance!

Kingley, even though my year started off on a decent enough note half way through the year all kinds of crap started falling apart & continue. Hang in there!

Thanks Ryan.

The last 12 months have been truly grim.

But on the bright side at least I have food in my belly, a roof over my head and I can still play harmonica!

So it's not a total write off! :-)

Ah bugger. Kingley, I feel your pain. Hope you're going to be in Bristol next week.

Speaking of having food in your belly, maybe this song will bring a modest amount of cheer:

I love the energy these guys are putting into that song. I bet a gig of theirs is a really fun evening.

Jason, I have sent an email to them and a copy of it to you on your YouTube email.

Thanks for the contact details for them. I feel a little better for the rant I just had at them.

Although I'm still pissed off that you ain't gonna be over here.

Well, to be honest, I'm relieved. Does anyone remember my earlier post about my mother coming into town from overseas that same night JR was playing at Shepherds Bush? Well, now I don't have to disappoint that dear old woman...

I told the missus last night that Jason isn't going to be at the London gig. She looked kinda worried and asked if he'll be at any of the gigs. I told her no and she looked even more worried, confused and disappointed. It transpires that she has ordered tickets to the Milton Keynes gig as a treat as she knew how much I'd love to see Jason. I have e-mailed marie@waltertrout.com and registered my complete dispair. The good news is I've managed to palm off the London tickets, but I feel I've gotta go to Milton Keynes.

Luke, if you can afford it (unfortunately I can't) Jason is playing in Belgium in December. Maybe you could take the missus on a short break there and catch that gig.

I'd LOVE to but cash is tight enough at that time of year and being a postie I'm gonna be losing money over these poxy strikes. I'm def going to see J next year if he comes to europe though. Gonna have to start putting money away. Guess that Harpgear just gets further and further outta reach.

Luke - that's a great gift from your womanfriend. Enormously thoughtful. I reckon you'll still get a good show out of Walter Trout, if you can put Jason Ricci out your mind for the full two hours

i think an evening with Walter Trout is nice, but there are so many strong blues guitarists/ vocalists out there, not much new there. old guard. now an evening with jason is a different story, it is a unique, one of a kind experience.... so sorry for you guys over there.

jason, you got some years to go, so no worries, spend the time working on tunes for a new album (he says selfishly :-)

This is the reply I have just received from Walters Management. Seems they're trying to blame Jason. I'm sure I'll enjoy the gig at Milton Keynes but as Walterharp says, it would of been fantastic to of seen Jason. @Andrew, dont buy dvd's. Go to Pornhub it's a great site if you wanna knock one out.

Dear Luke,
Walter loves playing with Jason, and I can assure you that it was not Walter’s choice that Jason will not be at the shows in the UK. Walter had offered this as a helping hand to Jason to get going in the UK, and Jason had accepted. However, Walter and I just found out last week that Jason had changed his mind and would not do the dates anyway. This is in no way Walter’s decision. Walter was just trying to help a friend to get some exposure.
Where did you find out about Jason’s decision (I have had a few e-mails lately who all have an indignant tone, and who all seem to indicate that a rumor is being spread that this was Walter’s decision!!!) , because there seem to be quite a bit of confusion out there with regards to the sequence of events, and who did what in this regard. I am not sure where people are finding out about this and sending e-mails to me??? So I would love to find out where this kind of misinformation is being generated. Maybe you can let me know?

Walter loves playing with Jason and Jason loves playing with Walter, but someone thinks someone else doesn't want to play with them. Golly Gee! This is all one big misunderstanding, like in a Three's Company episode!

Jason is, admirably, trying to be a gentleman about this, but I'll come to his defense--as a gentleman's friends always do--and note a small discrepancy in the following paragraph:

"Dear Luke,
Walter loves playing with Jason, and I can assure you that it was not Walter’s choice that Jason will not be at the shows in the UK. Walter had offered this as a helping hand to Jason to get going in the UK, and Jason had accepted. However, Walter and I just found out last week that Jason had changed his mind and would not do the dates anyway. This is in no way Walter’s decision. Walter was just trying to help a friend to get some exposure.
Where did you find out about Jason’s decision (I have had a few e-mails lately who all have an indignant tone, and who all seem to indicate that a rumor is being spread that this was Walter’s decision!!!)"

Three times here, Marie denies that it was Walter's decision. (She uses the word "decision" twice and "choice" once.) But please note: Jason never said it was Walter's decision. Nor did he say it was HIS (Jason's) decision. So whose decision could it possibly have been? Well, there's a third party making decisions here, but it's precisely that third party whose agency Marie renders invisible: Walter's management, a.k.a., Marie.

Jason didn't say this, I should note. These are merely my speculations. Nor did he say that Walter's management failed to pay his transportation costs or otherwise offered him a final deal at variance with the deal that had been agreed upon up front and then said "Take it or leave it!." Again: these are merely my wild speculations (seriously!) and Jason bears no responsibility for them!!! (Please note that I'm trying to match Marie's typography!!!) But this is precisely how the music business sometimes works. And it's management's job to put a smiley-face on the dirty work. Good management knows how to do that quite skillfully--AND make it clear that if the artist bridles about all this and goes public, he can forget about future collaborations with the artist in question.

A careful reader might be permitted to think that what happened here was one more example of management f----------ng over a couple of great artists who'd rather be making music together.

But those are merely my wild speculations. I am NOT spreading rumors here. I am simply clarifying and speculatively contextualizing an inconsistency in the stated position of Walter's management. I haven't spoken with (or emailed, or otherwise communicated with) Jason about this, and he bears no responsibility for my ravings.

Hey Jason,

Its a shame that this has happened, but considering the amount of indignant UK & Irish members posting here it might be a good indicator that the time is right for a JR&blood tour of UK & Ireland.

regards
Bdr

p.s. Walter Trout gives a good show , if anyone still has tickets then you should definately use them...especially if you've got a T-shirt with a "where's Jason" logo
