One of the people I follow on YouTube uploaded a video where she plays a melodica. That got me thinking. What do other free reed instruments look like inside? How do they deal with reeds. Do they use reed harmonics to get different note interactions or do they just rely on valves to shunt the air where it needs to go? Anyone have any insight?

Hey? Are these plastic reeds I see?

No I think they are parts of the keys that you can see there. If you go further in to his article, you will see that the reedplate is very much the same as a harp only bigger. Go to the following URL below and you will see.

What is their pitch range? It looks like it covers 4 octaves, or is it less since some of those notes are sharps? I wonder if you could turn one of those massive reed plates into a super long harp, maybe take two and offset them from each other.
