recently i noticed that when im playing at home i play very controlled an not hard. but if i go out or play for some one else i tend to play harder then i normally do which some times causes a reed to stick/not sound. my room is kinda small so volume sounds louder then it is. so when i go some where else i feel like im not playing loud enough. or maybe its cause im drunk. like the harp is right in my face so i can hear it no matter how soft i play. but i donno if people around can hear it when i play soft. or at least hear it the same way i do.

Ah, Grasshopper, good to recognize problem. You are half way there.

When your juices start running (and the booze does, too), use your self-analysis and introspection skills to modulate your volume. It's a practice just like running scales. I bow to your self-awareness.

As many Eastern philosophies says, the best time to practice is when you are challenged. For example, the best time to practice patience is when you are standing in line at WalMart.

Seriously, honest analysis of our behavior and overall stage craft is a huge issue few musicians fully master.

Yeah, a while back I wondered if overblowing was going to backfire on me - I surmised that on stage every note would jam (I close the gaps down to do it). As a result I've been modifying my technique - when I want a blow that isn't an overblow, I keep my tongue low down in my mouth. But check out the three Joe Spiers vids on another thread - he says a lot of relevant things there.
