I'm so happy. I got part of an early b-day present today. I figured it was time I at least tried a chromatic and I wanted some more cheap harps to mess around with the insides.
1 Chrometta 12 in G 3 Blues Bands in C 1 Pocket Pal in C 1 Hohner Puck
I didn't even really look at the puck. I figured it would be one of those 4 hole jobs, but nope, it's got the regular 10 and it's only 2 1/2 inches long. Before the day is out I'll be taking another shot at gapping and embossing, and if I screw up it will only be a $5 harp, so no big loss. I've been told what the rest the birthday budget is and I'm thinking...
Seydel Soloist Pro 12 in LLF, half-valved, maybe paddy tuned? I can't make up my mind on compromise/just/equal and I can't figure out which holes you valve on a 12 hole harp!
What do you think?
edit- doh, the Seydel site won't let me configure one that way. It will lay out the low notes but it won't let me get the top ones. Maybe I'll try a Favorite Black or a Sessions with the 'Antique' cover.

I learned to customize on the Bluesbands. Once you mercilessly slaughter one or two and get the hang of tweaking, they actually turn into some pretty decent harps. On the other hand, I hate the Pocket Pals with a fiery burning passion. Both of the P.P.s I owned were pieces of crap out of the box, and after an hour or so of just basic customization (gapping and arcing, mostly) they were still utter pieces of crap. In my experience, they're Hohner's most consistent harmonica...consistently unplayable, ten times out of ten.
