It seems like a lot of people on hear like to learn classical (and/or minor) pieces to help with tonality and repertoire. Has anyone thought about or played along with any klezmer music before. I just saw the klezmatics the other day and they got me hooked on this stuff. I have been whistling this song for the past 2 days straight:

I've been working on it with a C harp. Could someone tell me what position I'm playing in, I never learned the whole position convention, I just figure out keys by ear. I start the oi-oi-oi-oi-oi riff on the 5b, and I think thats playing on thats playing on the dominant of the minor key, so the tonic pitch would be 3 1/3bend?

I seem to remember another thread where someone was learning some klezmer. Sorry I don't remember who it was. I love it when people post stuff that's different than what we usually hear.

Howard Levy, Sandyt Weltman and Jason Rosenblatt all play klezmer music. I've played some of it in the past but have since moved on.

It sounds weird, but the harp fits perfectly to klezmer and all kind of gypsy, jewish music.

There is one version of Buddha playing "Bei mir bist du schoen" and it's one of the most beautiful and amazing harp songs I've ever heard.

I showed it to a couple of my colleagues, and they couldn't believe that this was harp. It's funny, when people only know bob dylan style harp and then you show it to them and some stuffs of jason.

Klezmer rules!

And just for the beauty of it... enjoy!

Is that violin or harp...? :) It could be harp...

What key is the song? If it's E and you're playing a C harp, then you're playing in 5th position, which is typical for Klezmer, but in 5th position the tonic is blow 2... so it could be another position entirely

I just got my first chrom. If I play just blow notes and work the lever it sounds a bit like this, or maybe even Turkish.

No, I think your right nineveh, now that I think about it the 3 bend sounds more like the 2nd scale degree than the first which would leave the two blow as the first. Thanks. German Harpist: I love Rheinhardt's minor swing, its another of my youtube favorites from a while ago

You get the 'ethnic' sound if you use a Lee Oskar Harmonic Minor ie it's suited to this style of music.

Here is a Harmonic Minor Medley which I found on Youtube:-

I have a couple of Harmonic Minors in Am & Gm & love them both. Biggest difficulty is finding tunes to play although just about anything can be played on them but it sounds like a Serbian rendition.
