Thanks guys, Elwood is correct they are in a band call the Mean Red Spiders and are based in Bristol. If you get the chance to see them then definately make the effort to go see them.
They are playing in My neck of the woods on 20th November in Didcot Oxfordshire. I will be doing the vid of the gig so may have some more posts.
I will post some more as it seems too much trouble to go to my You TUbe site for every one.
Yea this is something that I find naf when it comes to music and blues in general. There is no blues in any of this. They think there is but no nothing happening, and let's face it how can it. This kind of thing had been done to death. Frankly the guy trying to do a Butterfield impression and failing on all counts. Why can't folk develop into themselves. If this I guess is some sort of cutting session then where is the originality, because there isn't any.
These harp players are there because they think they are pretty good but have no idea how to develop and elevate their oun status.
Well I say not like this.This is nothing to do with blues, like many many people they are missing the point. It is a bit of fun and that is fine. LOL when that character sings Born in Chicago 1941, Ha ha what tablets is he on.He's not 68
You get my drift what's that all about.
Be honest, first and foremost play in the present, Be you no one else. THAT is what I believe this whole site is about. ....................

I think that these videos for the most part demonstrate some good playing and some good tone, techniques, etc. However not all of it is to my taste.
The main point of the NHL (just like SPAH) is to promote the harmonica and it's music. It's not about cutting heads or who is the most original. It's about the harmonica and it's music in all it's forms.
If you wanted to see whether the individuals in these videos can play "blues" or are developing their own sound and being innovative, then surely the only way to know that is to listen to their CD's or attend their gigs. There is an old saying that comes to mind "You can't judge a book by looking at the cover".
"This kind of thing had been done to death."
Well the same is true in any musical idiom that has been around for a while. It's not exclusive to blues. You will always have people who just want to play the music they like and have no interest in innovating. They are content to explore other facets of the music like tone, phrasing, etc and this can keep them busy for a lifetime. Not everyone in the world can be or even wants to be a Howard Levy or Jimi Hendrix.
It was an improvised jam session at an Harmonica festival for gawd's sake man! No one had played with the band before, and were there to have a few beers and have a good time and above all celebrate the harmonica in all its styles and abilities.
@Oxharp
Thanks for the post, great stuff
