Adam has given some information on a mic for amps that he likes a lot--can't remember what it was, and a quick search didn't bring it up--might be worth checking into. . .

The SM-57 is still the standard for both live gigs as well as for recording studios.

I like the Audix-i5....better lo-end response and smoother mids, imo. Designed as an instrument mic and very uni-directional. Uses regular XLR cable. Cost is affordable...typically less with online package deals than a comparable SM-57. The i5 has a better frequency response than the SM57. One could get a beta SM57, but you would pay twice as much.
Course, if you get a deal on a SM57, go ahead...will work fine . There are so many of them around that they often can be bought for cheap, especially if they're cosmetically imperfect.
I would highly recommend getting the Audix CabGrabber mic holder, regardless of what mic you get. You can them aim the mic at the "sweet spot" of the speaker, and you don't run the risk of some idiot kicking the mini mic stand.
Look around, there are sellers that will do a package deal for the mic, the Cabgrabber, and a cable for around what a new SM57 will run just by itself.
The Sennheiser 609's are trumpeted for this use also, but I have yet to hear of a harp player that uses one.

The SM57 is the industry standard. However if you own a 545 you could wire it for Lo-Z and use that.

I own and have used the Sennheiser 609 and it works just fine. It even is a good microphone for acoustic harp right into it, the flat profile seems to catch hand wah a bit better. Not a studio recording mic for acoustic harp, but good for live.
It is nice because you don't need the cab grabber but can hang it from your cab. That is good because there are times when the microphone stand can transmit a good bit of stage sound, but amp cabs seem more isolated from that
Their 906 has a switchable tone, so might be even more flexible, have not heard of a harp player using those. Much of the tone variation in microphones can be compensated for by where on the speaker you place the microphone anyway.

Beta 57 will run around $140, sm57 around $100. For vocals, the beta is worth the extra. I don't think it matters for harp. I have the beta and have used both, both ways. Sm57 sounds great on my rig. I sing into my beta57.

I bought a SM57 used for $50. Like me,it doesn't look that good but works fine. It does double duty-mic my cab and have it as a back-up mic for harp.Always in my car with a XLR cable. Comes in handy for open stages, too.

Judhug, I don't personally own a Sonny Jr Cruncher.
However I would try setting it up as follows: Bass 6-8, Treble 2-3, Middle 3-4. Then mic into input 1 normal. Jumper cable from normal 2 - bright 1 (I'm assuming that it has four inputs). Bright volume on 6, normal volume as high as you can get it.
That should work pretty well with any mic. Of course though you need to have a good seal on the mic and have good acoustic tone.
You could also email Sonny Jr and ask him what he recommends for settings.
Greg Heumann also has a Cruncher (I think) if you ask him nicely, he might also be able to give you some tips.

Greg's website is www.blowsmeaway.com you can reach him through there. He is also on here quite often. Also you could try asking over on Harp L. Lots of folk over there have Sonny Jr amps.
