Hi: I opened my Harmonica (the Suzuki HarpMaster) to see what's inside and I saw something strange! There were small scratches on the reed plates both sides. The scratches were around the reeds themselves. Is this normal? I ordered the harmonica from a local store and I wonder if this a sign of the harp to be a second-hand that the store sent me instead of a new? The scratches were around the plates started at the end of the each reed and went up around the reed in a random fashion way! Can you please help me realize I got what I paid for or I received a harp which was used before and wrapped as a new??? Thanks Hoolines

Are the scratches on the plate or they on the reed? If they're on the reed, those are tuning marks that unless it was done diagnolly across the reed, I wouldn't get worried about that at all.
If they'e not on the reeds, but on the plates, I've seen stuff like that from just about every manufacturer out of the box brand new, tho not very often. If they're very light, don't sweat it, but if they're deep gouges and you just bought it, send it back to Suzuki and let them take care of it, especially if it's still under warranty.

I've seen it on a some of my Suzukis but not all of them. I think it's where someone probably had to do some final adjustments at the factory. Automation processes are rarely perfect, in fact where I work we call it semi-automation aka as job security because with out a person to help it out it would'nt get done.

It seems so. When I looked more carefully it seemed they were something done while tuning marks were done. Thanks guys. It seems that I got an okay one after all!
