Hi everyone,

I've been playing for 9-10 months and finally have the guts to record myself and upload it on the web. I've started playing with Adam's lessons but now have tabbed out my favourite Harmonica Solo: 'Baked Potato' from Jason Ricci. Apart from being my first tab ever, it's also the first song I learned in 3rd position.
I've found a nice backing track in C minor to accompany me on my Bb-harp (Jason plays it on A). It's an Out of the box Special 20, which I've only gapped to be able to play overblows. I've recorded it with my Digitech RP350 (patches from Richard Hunter) and a Shure 520D.

The first part of the piece is the exact same thing as what Jason plays, but from 2:00 I start improvising. It's the only take I've done, so there are quite a few mess ups in there :-).

I would really like to hear what everyone thinks of it. What you like and don't like about it, what I need to practice more, ...

Here it is:

Thanks in advance!

I got it to work. It sounds pretty fantastic! You need to work on some of your lower end bends (the three draw mainly) but otherwise it was actually REALLY good. Also, try to get the harp deeper in your mouth and get your throat open. I really like this, you did good.

Worked for me...only playing for 9-10 months? Very impressive! Yes, my only critique would echo Zack's-go for a deeper embouchere, but damn it, I had to dig for that...so, great job! I am impressed that you delved outside the norm in your material, i.e., you didn't go for an easier straight-up I-IV-V major-tuned blues standard.

I used Box.net upon recommendations I got here on the forum, and it worked fine...I put up a couple of tune links about a week ago which a few people gave feedback on, but many more apparently downloaded, because box.net tells you how many times a file has been downloaded.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you like it. The thing is, even when I started to learn single notes 9 months ago I've always put the harmonica very deep in my mouth. My upper lip is almost at the back of the harmonic and I tilt the harp 45° with the back up. But it's true, I don't yet really like my sound on the 3 draw whole step bend. It sounds a little artificial if you understand what I mean. When I try to open up the cavity in my mouth, this note starts to squeak. Would any of you know how I can do it better?

A (guitar playing) friend of mine said that the improvisation part lacks a bit of schwung (I really hope this is an english word too ;-). If it ain't, but somebody knows an english synonyme for that, please help me out ;-)). Any ideas to get that into my playing?

Keep the feedback/critique coming, I really appreciate it!
