I have a Meisterklasse(diatonic)that's been in my collection for 15+ years, and I've recently been playing with it, but it needs work. Anyone know the name of the tip required to open the covers, and are the reed plates held by the same type of connector? I could probably improvise with a reed-prince, phillips or maybe a small flathead, but I'd rather get the proper tool so as not to dick it up.

If it is the MS series Meisterklasse, what you need for a screwdriver is a Pozidriv #1, and the best quality Pozidriv screwdrivers as well as bits for them are at http://www.wihatools.com.

Whatever you do, be advised that with those screws, DO NOT over-torque (overtighten) those screws because they are delicate, and as these are machine screws, but the real stripping problem isn't with the threads, because it is the slot where the screwdriver goes that's where you gotta be really careful.

If you use a Phillips, you will need to proceed with extreme caution because those will shread that slot even faster.

Thanks, Bob-no, I spent 21 years working on F-15s, and I like to use the right tool for the job, unless I have absolutely no choice, haha. I may see if my local Harbor Freight has Pozidriv tools first, but thanks very much for the info! I will proceed with caution and care!

I am particularly hard on A harps, I use them a lot and when I was playing the Lee Oskars was replacing them monthly. I decided to try Meisterklasse as they were billed at the time to be a lot more heavy duty. I got one and on the first gig sucked the 3d reed right out of it. Now I know that that particular Harp was defective and I shouldn't label all of them as bad, but truth is for the price of them ( I bought when they first came out) I never tried another

Bluzdude46, you're blowing out Lee Oskars by the month??? Damn, most people I know who play them, the shortest they ever last is 1-2 years, so it's really obvious you need to ramp that breath force back down in a BIG way and if you use a Seydel 1847, Suzuki Manji, or a custom harp, all of which have a much tighter reed slot tolerance (this is where harmonicas really leak air and the tighter they are, the more air the reed gets, which means you DON'T need hardly any breath force at all to do anything) you'll blow them out even faster.

Yea Bob, that was about 15 years ago. I was also playing gigs 2-5 nights a week. LO are ok harps for beginners, but I've settled more towards MB's and Customs

Once you play customs, it's tough going back to stock harps.
