I got a Champ 600 and is my habit,I dragged out every mic I owned to try through it.I have a 545L that I never used and now I know why. With the amp on "12" and plugged into the high gain input, the mic wasn't very loud.I went to the Shure site and they say the 545L is low impedance only. However this one has a 1/4' connector. What gives? I opened it up and there's a jumper on 2 of the cartridge terminals.Do you think somebody modified it? Nice clean solder joints. They either did a good job or it's factory-hard to tell. BTW-no xformer in there.

I had the same problem with an American D-4. It turned out to be a bad ground

If there is no transformer inside the barrel it is indeed low-Z only. The 545L was a strange bird. You need an impedance matching transformer to run it into your amp, and finding one with 1/4" in and out will be difficult.

I was afraid you were going to say that. Thanks for the help. Erica's JT-30 store has a x-former that will fit inside the barrel,I might try that.

I have them too if that doesn't work out. I have the transformer Shure uses inside its own impedance matching transformers. Contact me off list for more info.

Greg, have a few repairs to send your way. BTW: should have bought that Alamo model 3 you were selling last year, wanted to add it to mine and run 2 amps, but alas, I hesitated. I have my Model 3 for sale now, Skip is fine tuning a nice Masco for me.
