I am trying to tweek my LO low G and was reading an article about arcing. Can someone explain the purpose in a nut shell? In the article it lead me to beleive that you are more straightening than arcing. Im lost. and is there a sequence to follow when juicing up a harp. Gap first then arc then emboss, etc?

1st. Emboss
2nd. Gap (to almost close gap)
3rd. Arc ( this will open gap up.

That's how I would proceed but I'm sure there are others who would do it differently.

I just got Richard Sleigh's "Turbocharge Your Harmonica". He says you want most of the reed to lay flat in the slot, with just the tip-maybe the last 1/4 of the reed arcing up.If the tips too low,no air can move across it and it will stick.Although he doesn't discourage embossing,he places more importance on proper gapping first.

I gave this a try. My conclusion was gapping is what makes the biggest differance to me. I've embossed and arched but the bottom line is gapping makes the biggest differance with the way I play harp.
NOW I have channeled a few reed plates and noticed that an over blow got easier to do on a few harps in the upper register so you may want to consider that option.
