I don't really know anyone else around here that plays blues harp and i'd really like to talk/learn and perhaps jam with other harp players. Also it would be cool if anyone could set up my first harp for overblowing! i'm too worried to do it myself haha

Ah ok cool! we've found one! where abouts is Noranda? i live north of the river in Woodvale. Yeah I am a guitar player first but i'm tryin to start up a blues band with an undetermined amount of musicians + instruments but yeah it would be cool to jam with another harp player. how old are ya anyways? what level do you think you are according to Adams levels. i think i've made it to advanced intermediate but are yet to conquer overblows. Although, I've just started doing the 6 OB on a bflat MB without any setup - its pretty dodgy with the squealing etc. but the note is there!

Cheers for getting back.
Noranda is near Morley , not sure what level im at but i havent got advanced yet but im tryin hard these days.Wouldnt mind trying the overblow myself they reckon golden melodys are good for it.
Im 42 years young so sort of started late but love it. My brother is a guitarist as well and loves to jam blues so this could be interesting.
How old are you and we could team up for a blast could be fun.

Yeah it is great fun. I bought one GM from ebay a few weeks back and it's really nice - havent had the courage to open it up and arc it for overblows yet though. Although I just finished doing it on a Marine Band (thanks to Adams video - no. 16 or 17 i think) so I'm a little more confident. i'm just a youngin! -19 but a jam would be great fun i think. At this point im trying to deal with the wood swelling in the MB, it's a sad stage but i guess i'll have to take the comb out and sand it down...

Hey you Perth people...I'm not from Oz but I can tell you that in your midst somewhere in Perth is living one of the greatest British blues harp players who ever stuck a harp between his lips. His name is Adam Norton and he emmigrated to Perth approx 2 1/2 years ago with his family.
Adam taught me harp for about 18 months a few years ago and I have to say he was the best teacher and player I had ever heard at that time. I have no idea where he lives or if he's still playing but if you ever see his name anywhere try to hook up with him and you won't be disappointed. He used to play with a group he formed called Bad Town Blues in the London/Essex area (they are still going).

Sorry to be so vague but I think Adam wanted to make a clean break of it when he moved to Oz so we haven't heard very much from him since he left.

C james you sound as if you are into all the blues and we should join up.Play some blues, ill get my brother cause hes a bloody good guitarist esp blues.
Im just gettin into it or so i have said so for ages but age has nothin to do with it and nationality.
Its universal music, when i was your age i was into punk rock my brother into heavy metal but it all equates to the same stuff.
Sometimes ill go and see the waso orchestra play and they are magic.Should be world superstars but there not in at the moment. Still you are young and its fantastic that you want to play blues music, you could be the next big thing and id be honored to see that.
We have to get a jam together and love to hear that marine band for overblows and show me how to set it up.

Oisin, that's really interesting to know, although if he is trying to make a clean break like you said, i dont want to be the one to track him down! Did you know him personally?

Hey nick, it's funny that you mention that because i'm actually currently in a heavy metal/progressive band as well at the moment. I've always been the one into experimentation however so i'm always looking for new outlets to channel my various musical tastes. My next door neighbour is in the waso orchestra! i think he plays the tuba....Yeah i think i'm slowly getting the overblows! i'd be more than happy to share the info i've collected. Blues club sounds interesting as well...i'm actually off to a jazz club in mindarie this weekend but i'll definately check the blues one out. Me and my band actually jam at a place in joondalup - it's about 60 bucks to jam for as long as you want and they supply a big room, microphones, PA eqipment etc. any guitar leads or other stuff as well they give to you, its right across the road from the Joondalup shops - that's always a good place to jam if you want

Sounds like C james has started something here. The place in Joondalup sounds great have to tell my bro bout that one.
Chopper seems keen too this could turn out to be Perths answere to Harp Attack!
C james you are into a lot of different types of music which is great i used to share a house with a bloke who played the drums classical style in tasmania and he played in a jimmy Hendrix tribute band. Pity he moved back to tassy.
Just at the moment im in the process of moving which is a pain in the arse but as soon as i find a new place ill be up for it. Big hassle with 3 kids.
I recently bought the 5 year old girl the seydel big 6 harp maybe shell be up for a jam too ha ha

Yeah CJ...I knew him real well and he's a beautiful bloke, very friendly and a great teacher. I'll be speaking to the drummer from his band next week and i know he's had a christmas card or two from him so I'll try and find out if he's still into the music/teaching scene.

He's got the dirtiest tone I've ever heard and he wrote some very original songs with his band. You will be amazed if you ever hear him.

wow, we've united all 3 perth players! it will be good to all get together and have a big free for all jam. Jimi hendrix tribute band - cool! iv'e recently gotten into him a fair bit - his technique has influenced me to loosen up a bit in my guitar laying, doesnt matter if you don't hit all the notes etc. How are the Seydels anyway?

Oisin, i'd really like to hear some of Adam's stuff. If you do ever talk to him again, be sure to ask if he still does harp lessons! i'd love to have a proper harp teacher.

I have never played a Seydel but ill be looking foward to hearing the big 6 which is a cut down 1847. Mainly play spec 20 Lee Oskar and just got a suzuki promaster valved in ab with b flat replacement reeds got a lovely tone.
My brother likes to play some Hendrix sounds cool when he gets into it.
Remember when Hendrix played he didnt have all the cool gadgets we have now and still got an amazing sound.

Ah ok cool, i'm looking at ordering a Suzuki bluesmaster or harpmaster off ebay, i hear theyre really nice but i don't like the red comb. I have a mix of harps right now still searching for the perfect one for me but ive got some blues harps C, G, a marine band in Bb (my favourite key) and a golden melody in D. I also ordered a big river harp off ebay the other day in C which i'm really looking foward to play. I do like paul buttersfield, especialy the song drifting (theres an amazing live performance on youtube) but I have to say my favourite diatoni players are either little walter or sonny boy williamson II. Stevie wonder is probably my favourite of all time though, i'm actually looking at purchasing a suzuki chromatix harp soon. I can't discard my first influence to begin the harmonica - the Great Bob Dylan.

Hey Nick and the rest of you Perth people, here are a couple of link to Adams page on the Bad Town Blues website;

http://www.badtownblues.com/adamspage.htm

Gives a little bit more info on Adam and a few pics so if you spot him walking round Perth you'll know what he looks like. Also check out their myspace page as you can listen to a few of their tracks.
