I know this is kind of a weird subject to be my first topic but it's something i was curious as to if any of you out there have dealt with something like this scenario:

Ordered say about 5 harps or so, about $100-150 worth from an online vendor.
Was an impulsive buy, next day really wished i had ordered a different model after reading some reviews OR wished i had chosen different keys.
Package arrives, let's say one of those sturdy Sealed up priority USPS type boxes.
I don't open it and try to contact the company for a "mercy" return only to hear that standard "we don't do returns on harmonicas due to "health hazzards"

NOW i understand why companies can't accept opened harps that someone has played on, but do you think it's a tad bit over strict; give a guy a break on a clearly SEALED up UNOPENED package for an exchange or store credit?

I won't be a bumhole and mention any company names. BUT what do you all think about this? Just trying to find out if i'm really insane or are some places a little too strict?

I know there's probably 2 guys out there who order a bunch of harps and try them out and then micro weld the tape and packaging back together and try to return them so I guess that's what they are worried about ? eh, hope i've not offended anyone too badly.

ANY Thoughts? Thanks for reading, sorry if this was a waste of your time.

thats like a nation wide or world wide policy that no matter what, you can not return harps under any condition. all stores, vendors etc... go by this. a while ago i got a harp that was a POS an i couldnt even return it or exchange it at the store, they wouldnt even take it back as defective. had to send it out to hohner. you could try selling them.

I do know for a fact that at Musician's Friend if you order harmonicas and DON'T open the actual PACKAGE that arrives, they will gladly let you return them. I know they are kinda like the Wal-Mart of the Music World, but i have to say I've never had a single bad experience with them in the past 10 years. Wonderful customer service.
I'm just not understanding why these "other" companies will not do the same for me. They can very clearly see that i've not tampered with or opened the package in any way. I know it is my fault for Mis-ordering and I should respect their policy, but I still don't get how it's such a big deal to return a "sealed" package.
Guess I'll have to follow their rules or take my business elsewhere. I'll probably do the latter. The place i'm speaking of has wonderful prices and a great stock but they are a bit slow sometimes on getting the shipment out as well. Ha, that's probably why I changed my mind about the order i'd made by the time it took to get here :) Well, no more complaining.
I'll say this then i'll go, Musician's Friend is now even starting to Stock the complete Suzuki line! So check them out.
And to you smaller guys with companies, if you are reading this i'd love to continue buying from you as well, just think about cutting a guy a break once in a while. Don't you think it'd be worth taking back an unopened box of harps worth about $100 rather than pissing off a would be customer for many years to come and thousands of dollars that customer may spend? Just some advice to the entrepreneurs out there.
Take care everyone! God Bless,

I returned one once because it was not as advertised on the website. they changed it for another.
I had ordered a Black Bushman and they sent the chrome as they didn't do the black anymore so they swapped it for a Delta Frost.

Don't know where you are clarksdale but here in the UK we have a thing called DSR Distance Selling Regulations where you are allowed to return anything which has been bought via a website seven days after receipt. May want to see if that applies to you wherever you are.

i wonder if you've called and actually talked to a human service rep. i have sent a harp back to a vendor that didn't work, they either replaced it or tweaked it into good shape. i don't know which. i paid shipping there, they paid it back to me. this was after a phone conversation where i stated with a lot of positive attitude what my issue was and how i would like it resolved. it's just business but one can use manners and smoothness to attain what one needs.

on the other hand i once tried to cancel an order with a vendor since they took the order and then never communicated with me for months, and wouldn't answer emails or phone. when i did get a hold of them they excused this by telling me that they had been very busy and that the harp i wanted was hung up at customs.
i canceled anyway and told them why- lack of communication. guess what- the harp finally came after i'd gotten one someplace else, spent my $$, and it was a chromatic, not cheap, put us in a slight bind at home that month! as a result, that guy gets none of my business and also he gets a load of negative publicity.

i'd call that vendor cdale, and explain firmly and with manners, that the harps are not even unsealed from the packaging, and why i wanted to return them, and see how that works. other than that you may be able to sell them off a forum or ebay.

thanks for the advice Jbone. I heard ya about communication. I'm all about some of that. I actually worked as a salesman at a Music store once for 4 years so i'm pretty good on the phone.
I'm awaiting the Companies 2nd email responce and we'll see. Like you said phone is better, so may try to call them next week.
I just wish they would show a dab of compassion. The first Email response from them was a "cold robotic" statement of their "policy"
Just a little, "Oh, I'm sorry Sir" would have gone over great on me. I may end up forced to keep them or like you said Ebay them.
If anyone happens to play SeyDel Blues Sessions that's what i'm trying to return. Keys of A, D, G, and F
thanks,
