I don't know what's possible with the software the site is running on, but keeping in mind that links you've already clicked on change color, is there a way for them to change back (or to yet another color) if something has been added to them since the last time you clicked, or any other scheme short of leaving a comment, that would let us know we've already read everything on that thread?

Links change color because of the historical information your computer stores when you visit websites.
If you were to clear recent history you (settings pending) would eliminate browsing and download history which makes the links go back to their former color.
I do not see that macwebsitebuilder offers the databases required to remember which threads have been updated since your last visit.

Okay, pass me a beer jon!

Yeah, vBulletin looks pretty good solution. I prefer that style myself. Though what vBulletin isn't is a plug and play little bit of everything like macwebsitebuilder offers. What it comes down to is time and money and what the best solution is for our host. It works, you can get the quick and dirty in a matter of minutes.

I agree with Nick - I don't speak for Adam, but I know he has said on a number of occasions that he has no intention of changing the forum at this time. I know that what vBulletin offers is probably superior, but it also a bit more technical and would cost extra. I think the forum is fine as it is - the server gets a little overloaded sometimes, but I can live with that. I actually like the fact that new posts aren't flagged, it means I tend to read far more threads on this forum than any of the others I use.

Yeah, it's not the best, but it works. And I believe the slightly ragged, undifferentiated forum homepage actually encourages conversation.

My model is the best-known running forum, which has an extraordinary amount of traffic: Letsrun.com

I like the fact that Prof. Adam logs in from time to time.

adam, your forum is the best, just harder to get used to is all.. the other one i showed(or one like it), just allowes us to have private conversations, get emails when a certain threat is posted in, show more personal info, have a photo gallery, are a bit more organized, and also alow for sticky threads(always at top of list), among other things..

there is nothing wrong with this forum, just is more limited then the other.. these are just thoughts, i mean no disrespect by posting this...
