Hi
I looking to get into amplifed harp and need some kit - i would be really grateful if anybody could offer some advice in this minefield!

I have a roland cube amp 15watt and was thinking about getting an AKG D5 or a Shure SM57 - can i just get an xlr to jack and plug it into the guitar amp?

Furthermore i was hoping to get a Akai headrush E2 - so can i just put that in the middle with an jack to jack cable or do i need a preamp, DI box or mixer?

And what would be the easiest solution to record the fruits of my labour? - I have an IMAC so was thinging a behringer UCA202 (i take it i would need a mixer in between mic and computer? or would a porta studio be a more cost effective solution?

Any other recomendations for equipment gratefully recieved

Many thanks in advance

If you use either of the two mics you mentioned, you will need an impedance matching transformer. They are not very expensive. This will make sure you get the best tone from your mic.

The headrush will just go inline between mic and amp (with the transformer going between mic and headrush).

You don't really need a mixer to record that setup on your iMac, but you will need some kind of audio interface. Just take the recording out from the Microcube, into the interface, connect to the USB port of your mac and set the input level in the system control panel. Which interface you go for is up to you. Behringer one you mention looks good value, but I'd see if you can try one first. Some of the lower end interfaces I've used in the past generate a lot of noise. You should be able to record straight into Garageband or Logic or whatever software you use.
