I was in my truck last week, waiting to start work. I reached for my current favorite harp, a Seydel Silver in the key of C. ( I am working through some of David Barrett's Masterclass stuff and most of it is in 2nd position, key of G) Much to my dissapointment, I had forgotten my harp, first time I've ever done that.

I dug around in my truck and found one of my old Special 20s. Oh well, I thought, better than nothing. I had one of the best playing sessions in recent memory on that "back-up" harp. It had a different feel, but I was diggin it. Some of the areas where I was a little rough seemed to smooth out. It was a great experience.

This little mixup really opened my eyes about keeping my mind open. I was sort of caught up in a one-dimensional approach to my playing, gotta keep moving and trying to develop. Can't remain static, must keep learning.

How did changing you harp change your one dimensional approach to playing?

Hey KingoBad,
Good to hear from you, did some skype sessions with you and Gary a while back.

Changing my harp kinda reminded me that I was in a rut. I was just sorta going through the music mechanically, playing what was in the book I was working out of.

I started improvising more, listening better. Working on different positions, getting out of my comfort zone basically.

Changing harps was a little thing, but it made me think about stretching out and trying some new things.

I sometimes go back to using old harps that i have and quiet often they sound better than i remember. I'm jamming on an old Hering Vintage Bb at the moment and i'm loving it. but i can remember buying it and not being that impressed with it at the time.
