I have just bought one of these.
Does anyone know if you can just put the whole harp in the tank and clean with warm water?

I wouldn't recommend putting the entire instrument in that unless you like possible rust problems and in the case of an unsealed wood comb, non stop comb swelling. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

They work really well with reed plates, especially if you use a non-toxic tarnish remover. As Bob says, you can't pop the whole harp in at once.
Different parts need different times in the machine, and it's best to use detergent, not tarnish solution for plastic combs. Paper-towel dry everything immediately afterwards. Good luck!

Well I rarely clean my harps more than a cursory wipe. Frankly I think the whole constant dismantling and wiping down is a bit OCD for your average player.
Maybe if I was Jason, playing expensive customs, making my livelihood from them, and gigging daily, well maybe I'd think differently, but I'm not...
When I have cleaned my harps (Lee Oskars, Suzukis, Hohner, Proharps, Golden Melodies and Bushmans) I just dunk 'em with a denture tablet. They are all plastic combs; mostly stainless steel covers.
I've never, ever had a problem with rust

I agree. I only go through this routine on Secondhand harps. Otherwise I just use sterisol.

I use 50/50 water and vinegar
Many of the ultra sonic cleaners you can buy aren't very good. I had a cheap one from Harbor Freight that didn't work well. Then I asked my mother about the kind they use in her lab and she sent me one. This thing is about 20 years old but blows the socks off of the model from harbor freight.

I use an Aldi store purchased supersonic cleaner to clean my harps, yep all the harps with plastic combs go into the cleaner,it will hold three. I use Dawns original foam dishwashing detergent and hot water. cycle it three or four cycles. It works great for me, no wood combs harps are put in the cleaner, it tends to swell them, they smell good when finished, oh yes I use paper towels to dry them off, shake them gingerly and let them dry on top of the towels.. Be sure they are completely dry. I honked down on a golden melody one time that was not completely dry and blew out a reed.
