Well, here it is, for better or worse. They aren't bluesy numbers but here is one I recorded goofing around using two harmonica tracks with and some distortion using Audacity and one recorded with my friend Jeff Jackson on vocals on a song I wrote the lyrics for and played harp on. (I think I got lost part way through on the second one.)

It's the same C Frankenharp on both of them, just a Piedmont with a beat up BluesBand cover on it. It sticks a bit but I like the tone. Jeff's got real recording equipment, but the first one is just done through an old computer mic.
How do you embed audio files?
And BBQBob, I know I'm playing way to hard in the first one.

I thought I sounded kind of lost on the one with vocals. I accidentally discovered that unchained melody plays over it well and I kept having to force myself not to play unchained melody. I didn't want to just echo the vocal, but I ended up doing a lot of that too.
If I can find a 1/8 to 1/4 plug maybe I'll try that mic in a tube amp. I like the way it squashed the sound. It doesn't show on that take, but it can give it an 'old mic' sound.

Just make sure it's not an electret mic, or it won't work without a battery.

It won't hurt it to try, but it won't work if it's an electret.

Hey Nacoran-I won't rip you up, but I can make a few suggestions since you are seeking feedback. First off, it's great that you are making an effort. Here's my 2 cents: first tune:vary the rhythm part a bit, both with note selection and dynamics, perhaps leaving some space for your lead. I realize you did it with no percussion/rhythm backup, and that's much more difficult to do. On the lead part, i say think of a melody, and use it throughout. Don't be afraid of the upper register, either. and, as I'll say in response to track 2, throw some trills, bends, hand effects, etc. from your 'trick bag' in there for color.
second tune:nice mellow, folk-rock feel, so kudos on writing! And the guy has a pleasant voice, well-suited for your song. As for the lead, instead of backing up the singer's every word and playing thru every verse, break it up a bit with some call-and-response. slow tunes like that always sound good with some trills(instead of just holding a single note, try some 4-5 blow trills, or any others than sound right to you) and hand effects. All in all, good effort! And don't feel bad if you receive little feedback-I posted some track links to box.net a while back, and know that several people downloaded them, but only one or two commented. ---------- ~Todd L. Toddl- I noticed more people had listened than commented. I was going to write a 'Silence Hurts' blues later today. :p

haha, maybe it's like our mamas taught us,'if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all'. My music and/or playing style might not be to everyone's liking, and I respect and accept that. That can be said for anyone's music. ---------- ~Todd L. Greene, Devout Pedestrian

there you go. If it's not for money, you are the only one who needs to like it. FWIW, I liked the song...

"not a song if there aren't any words"-So, if someone is composing a song, and has the rhythm section all sorted out, everything else is in place and it sounds great without vocals, it's not a song? ---------- ~Todd L. Greene, Devout Pedestrian

I don't think it's a 'song' technically.
song (sông, sng) n. 1. Music a. A brief composition written or adapted for singing. b. The act or art of singing: broke into song. 2. A distinctive or characteristic sound made by an animal, such as a bird or an insect. 3. a. Poetry; verse. b. A lyric poem or ballad.
Song seems to be just if it uses a voice. Otherwise it's just a tune, or a melody (although it might include a harmony as well), or a piece, or a composition, or an instrumental number, or a symphony or a movement.
I think since most music most people listen to is songs they just use the word to mean any piece of music. You can argue that saying it needs to have voice to be a song is a bit fussbudgety, but I've heard people introduce something as 'an a cappella and without any instruments'. Of course, when you get to specialties sometimes it's more important to have more specialized words, like embossing, scooping, gapping, etc.
Fussbudgeting accomplished. I will now return you to the thread with the urge to punch the next English Major you run into. (Sorry, it's like a disease. Somebody talks about words and I have to expound.)
