Xharp, I agree some times less is better. We did a recording session 2 weeks ago. I owne a MXL V900 condenser mic. and played thru it with out any effects right into the board. What clairity and warmth, you can feel every hand gesture and throat resonance. Seems like if you can really play your instrument you done't really need all that other stuff cause you and others listening can feel the music coming from deep in your soul.

Since I had a buch of guitar gear already, I have been amazed at the variety of tones I can cook up with it now, compared to when i started playing earlier this year. I have played out and used my vocal mic only into the PA, my cut down samson r21 into my digitech pedal into my valve junior and a dual 12 inch cab, my samson r21 straight into the PA last week, my pedal into the pa with a couple of different mics....they all sounded good, but one thing is for sure. None of it makes as much difference as the acoustic tone i start with. I can do things now with a vocal mic i couldn't do with a dirty cb mic six months ago. Of course, now i can do other things with the cb mic as well. I say, travel as light as you can and play your guts out at the gig. My jam night rig fits in my harp case.

Seems to me that there is something to doing more with less.

I was revisiting that after seeing BBQ Bob on this forum, he turned me onto the acoustic thing many years ago and I had sort of forgotten about that and drifted over to playing amped up. It was like a reminder to get back to basics.

I still do play amped up at gigs but playing acoustically sure has its simple pleasures.

My friend has a multiple FX pedal. Don't know it's name or brand, but one day we were running my harp through it and we got me sounding pretty much like a trumpet. I have a Voice FX pedal, but I lent it to a friend and he keeps forgetting to get it back to me. I didn't have an amp to plug it in to at the time I lent it out. I've been itching to see what weird noises I can come up with.

trumpet is one of my favorite sounds to do. It is one I do in the upper octave and middle octave sometimes. I don't use anything but an occasional delay. Usually it's my valve junior and a 12 inch speaker or two. I did a video recently with an 8 inch speake..it sounded the same with less volume.
