Hello again from a wet and cold Madrid:
This is me being lazy (typical guitarist) but would anyone be kind enough to post a quick list of maybe 10 players in the leagues of Billy Branch, Magic Dick, Sugar Blue, Jr Wells etc and the kind of harps and amps they use?
Thanks guys & gals and keep up the great forum entries!

Thing is, most players have various rigs for different venues, and obviously harps are not a static item either. I know Pierre LaCocque is pleased with his SonnyJr. Cruncher, and he uses Hohner Golden Melodies alot. I've seen Rod Piazza play thru so many different amps, but when he's gigging local he plays thru two 6X10 HarpKings.

Most top pro blues players tend to use customised Hohner harmonicas (usually Marine Bands) and a bullet mic either a JT30 or a Shure 520D for a lot of the time.
When it comes to amps they generally seem to use 4X10 amps of various descriptions and often two together (mostly Bassman or Super Reverb amps) for live work.
There are however of course many exceptions to this rule.
Although the one thing that pretty much all pro players have in common is a good acoustic tone and technique.

Douguitar - i saw Sugarblue playin on a Pro Harp in '95, in small blues bar, Chicago; he accompanied Jon Entwhistle from The Who (playin solo gig) on stage. Also met Jr. Wells in NY, small bar, The Turning Point, he was playin a Marine Band that night in '94. That's what i know regarding your famous players question.
