Can anyone direct me to the harp tab for Muddy Waters' "Hoochie Coochie Man"? I believe it is in the key of A with crossharp played in D. I don't think it fits the standard 12-bar progression. I've found a variety of comments on the intro (stomp da-da-da-da dah)but I am also looking for the harp tab throughout. I am poor at identifying Little Walter's notes "by ear". But if I can read it, then I can play it. This is for sitting in with a 9-14 yrs age blues band for a family talent show. My son will be on piano at 9 yrs. old. If we can master this, it will be an extremely cool experience. Thanks to all you harp enthusiasts and your passion for this unique art form.

Plenty can be found if you google it. Here's one, albeit unverified: http://www.harptabs.com/song.php?ID=2083

That link is to a tab for it in cross harp in the middle of the harp.
If I'm not mistaken, the original was done in first position on an A harp. The main riff being: -2 -3' -2 -3' +4
That's really the only major part the harp has in the song. It sounds to me like he is doing long wails in the back of the chorus on maybe the 2 hole draw, adding a ton of vibrato. I've not set down and tried to jam with it in a long time, so that may or may not be correct.

hmmm...the recording of that song that I have is live from New York, and according to the credits James Cotton was playing harp... Preston's tab of that riff seems correct for the beginning, but there are a few different riffs as the song progresses (at least in the one I have), but like MickeyC I am terrible at "hearing" the correct notes to play. I try to jam along with it, but there are plenty of places where I just can't get it quite right. But then, I am just a beginner...

I do prefer it in cross harp, even if the original may have been in 1st position.
1 2" 1 2" 2
Makes it easier if you have only been practicing second position too.

the opening -2 -3'' -3'' +4 that is 1st pos on a A harp..then what is the tab for the other parts.. I guess you can do anything as long as you bend the 3 hole draw. Does anyone know the rest of the tab though HARP (Harmonica Assn 'Round Philly

I do it like KingoBad. It is the way Jerry dose it on Eric Clapton, From the cradle. Jerry Portnoy's solo is killer on this version.

-1 -2 -1 -2 -2 The 2nd and 4th notes are bent 2 draws
The studio version is in A played D Cross / same as above.

For variety, you can play it an octave higher in second position as follows:

Maybe I should amend my tab (I don't usually tab anything).
They were all draw -1 -2" -1 -2" -2.
I feel better now.
