As the title already says I'm looking for some riffs, songs or whatever to play in 2nd position without using bends... preferably something in the direction of blues.

I have a student who's 70. He's getting too content in 1st position and I want him to be able to jam with his grand-kids like manky does.

Amazing Grace, not exactly a blues tune.

The opening riff to Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Pride and Joy" is second position and requires no bending. It also offers a feel for the upper octave; good exercise all around, methinks.

Aka, you mean played in the upper octave starting on 4 draw and ending on 6 blow?

Thanks for that. I was rather looking for something around the 2 hole draw though. So that he got accustomed to the 2nd position root note...

But as you say, this definitely is a good practice in the upper octave of second position.

I've got a handful of such lessons in The Store. Check out the previews:

"Stompin'" ( appropriate for BEGINNING players, but of possible interest to ADVANCED BEGINNERS who have trouble keeping the beat through 12-bar blues changes)

Harp key: C

"Bittersweet Boogie": an original 12-bar blues for BEGINNERS and ADVANCED BEGINNERS. This song carries a boogie-woogie line through the changes and offers workable technical challenges for developing players, with a focus on tongued articulations and the incorporation of chord rhythms into a continuing melodic structure.

Harp key: C

"Same Old Blues": An original 12-bar blues for BEGINNERS and ADVANCED BEGINNERS. Like "Bittersweet Boogie" (above), this is an excellent workout for developing players who don't bend much (or at all) and want to play something that is recognizably a blues. Good synthesis of single note melodies and chord rhythms. Serious blues harp begins here.

Harp key: C

"Whistlin' the Blues": an original 12-bar blues head, appropriate for ADVANCED BEGINNERS and BEGINNERS ready for a stiff challenge.

Harp key: C

I can vouch for the lessons that Adam mentioned. I have used them all. In fact, I was playing a little medley of those lessons as a warmup this morning on Madison Avenue while I waited for my client to show up at her store. GOOD STUFF.
