I subscribed to MediaFile and uploaded my image that tooka made to the site. I'm having a heck of a time embedding it in the forum posts. All I get is the text I copied from my MediaFile and no image. What am I doing wrong?

Tuckster, do this:

1. Make sure you've got the image's address copied, e.g. in Firefox, right click on the image and 'copy image location'. You might have to request the image first from the server so it is in your browser. But that will depend on the fileshare system you're using.

2. Type this in your post:

<img src="paste address here">

That's it!

You posted too much between the " ".

There should only be "http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/8d82e98971560213c67d44b0cc31d31d2g.jpg"

Btw it's MediaFire not MediaFile. Here's what I've been doing: go to MediaFire to my file(s).I click on Share, then click on Embed in Website, then I choose and copy Embed Forum Code and what I get is in the previous post. ????? Do I have to remember the code Mick gave me?
GH- do I include the quotes? I don't know what I copied that was too much,I just right clicked and hit "copy image location"

You just have to take the highlighted text and do as mickil said. Then it should work.

The text between .

Oh my god, I see why you have problems with the embedding stuff. Mediafire makes it sooo complicated:

A way of doing it is the following:
Copy the whole text from "HTML embed code". Post it into the forum text box. Then remove everything except the <img src="http://www.mediafire......4b0cc31d31d2g.jpg border="0">

Or maybe an easier method:

Go to the mediafire page where you see the picture. Right-click on the picture and select "copy image location". Then paste the address between the brackets as mickil explained.

I was getting screwed up myself because I'm using a different browser than usual and it was offering to let my copy the link, which I did, instead of the url.

GH- I just checked out the how-to for the map. Someone mentioned in the original thread that the map was centered so the poor Australians couldn't see themselves. I think I fixed it by zooming out everywhere I posted it, you might want to do the same. I know there are a bunch of them, but not a single one has pinned up yet!

Btw. do you think it would be ok to replace the big ass amp with some standard sized icon... It covers half of the US... ;)

Ok I thought it would be more user friendly. I wanted to embed sound files eventually since I don't have a web cam,but I'm not sure I want to attempt it.

You got over the worst part. Embedding sound files is very similar to pictures. Check out the how-to and you should be able to figure it out. Otherwise, just open another thread and I'll walk you through it.

GH- I keep asking rbeetsme in different threads if it's OK to replace his icon but he hasn't gotten back to me. I've even contacted the Google forum to find out if there is a fix for the scaling issue for custom icons, but they didn't have any suggestions. Actually, it disappeared for a little while and I thought maybe he was working on trying to scale it.

Anyone know anything about scaling Google map push-pins?

edit: I'm going to start listing any useful info about the issue here. Still trying to resolve the problem.

Ah, take it easy. We should just replace the icon and tell him: If he wants the amp as an icon he should upload a picture that is the size of the other icons... simple.

GH- It's not as simple as uploading the right sized picture, there seems to be an issue with it scaling as you zoom in and out. I was hoping we could eventually make a couple themed placemarks, maybe some harps standing on end, mic stands, amps, blues hats, etc. Unfortunately my programming skills are almost nonexistent, and my art skills are only mediocre.

I know, I guess I'm just being overly careful. I've seen threads blow up on here and I don't want to cause a row.

Yup, do the following:

- right click on "click here to start download..." and selct 'copy link location'.
- then type the following text:

<a href="post link here">Name</a>

- replace 'post link here' with the link location and 'Name' with the text that should be displayed in the forum (e.g. Pack Fair).

Don't type it, copy it.

I.e. select the text with your curser, right-click and press 'copy'. Then go to the text box, right-click and press 'paste'. Helps to avoid mistakes...

nacoran, rbeetsme isn't the one with the walter? No, ok,... ;). I will just change his amp to a simple pin and leave him a message in his description box.

About having different icons... I saw that someone added little flags for "Klingenthal" and "Trossingen". What would you think about having different icons for different things. E.g. flags for places (Adams Crossroads, Trossingen, Jam Camp, Spah, etc), pins for normal people, little figures for teachers, ... and stuff like that. Just a thought.

GH- I like the idea of different types of flags. I'd thought about that but hadn't put anything in place. I put the the flag up for Trossingen and I think someone else saw that and put in the Klingenthal flag. I think just about everyone used the default pin or the little person. I wouldn't want to deny anyone their martini! I think there is a sunshine a couple snowflakes and a thumb tack. The problem is I don't see a way to create a map legend. At least as a beginning we can use the flag for harp manufacturers home towns.
