The EV is a little more ballsy, The EV638 I have is even more edgy than the 664. Hang up the SM57! Stick with vintage mics.

One more thing. I know you can actually speak, it's good for engaging your audience. 8^)

lol i have never spoken on any of my youtube vids. i donno why. i dont even speak much in person. unless im drunk.

but ya sm57 got nothing on the EV. the sm57 sounds so much thinner. well i might be exaggerating. not "so much" but its enough to tell a difference if you play harp. its my new fav mic for sure. i think they were singing into this mic in the johnny cash movie too at one point. so it allways reminds me of that.

The EV664 is the only mic I have and have had (only been playing for a year) so I have no comparisson. I love it though, very glad I bought it. I also like it better than the Shure from what I heard.

One of the beauties of a-b comparisons is that the audience will only hear whatever you decide to play through. I have actually recorded all my mics and they are so subtly different that i seriously doubt the audience cares one way or the other....lol. I could hear the ev as "gutsy-er." I'm not sure the audience would notice even if you played one song on one and switched. It might be enough to give a little tonal variety, though.

Exactly..same with guitar tone and the old tube vs. solid state debate.
